I was listening to some Moody Blues and thought to myself that '67 was probably the greatest year in rock and roll. There were several debut albums from very important bands, as well as the release of some of the most important and influential albums of all time:

Seminal albums:
Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band - The Beatles
Magical Mystery Tour - The Beatles
Days of Future Passed - The Moody Blues
Disraeli Gears - Cream
The Doors - The Doors (debut album)
Are You Experienced? - The Jimi Hendrix Experience (debut album)
The Velvet Underground and Nico - The Velvet Underground (debut album)
Buffalo Springfield - Buffalo Springfield (debut album)
Procol Harum - Procol Harum (debut album)
The Piper at the Gates of Dawn - Pink Floyd (debut album)
Surrealistic Pillow - Jefferson Airplane
The Grateful Dead - The Grateful Dead (debut album)

I worked in a bookstore in high school. I remember reading one of the music magazines (I can't remember which one), and it made the same claim that 1967 was the best. They listed a ton of albums, some of which you listed. It's so subjective, but there was definitely some great music made that year.

I'm pretty sure 2008 is the best year in rock since you can listen to all the years before it.

I thought it was universally acknowledged (Homer Simpson notwithstanding) that 1967 was the best year in rock history and 1966-1970 the best period

Also, you left off Love - Forever Changes

I think the title generally goes to 1967, though Ive also seen 1969 cited as the best year.

Oddly though, the year prior 67 produced two albums that are generally looked at as the best two ever, and Blonde on Blonde which is only a step behind, but it just lacks the depth of 67.

Also I was conceived in 1967. That's how powerful Jimi Hendrix's mojo was.
