Fru Fru drinks: When appropriate, what to order? Fru Fru drinks: When appropriate, what to order?

To be honest I ordered MaiTais and Pina Coladas in Hawaii last month when I went but I would never order then at home. In fact I think its lol when someone orders a BudLight or MillerLite on vacation. Your in Hawaii bud, either get a local brew or a girly drink.

Blue Hawaii is the best tropical drink.

Malibu + pineapple is the poker drink IMO.

It's appropriate to order "girly" drinks whenever the **** you want one.

I think the real question is why would anyone order something that tastes like ****.

Which is to say, when isn't a fru fru drink appropriate?

Obviously everybody has different palates. I don't have a sweet tooth at all, so I kind of grimace when I see something like cheesecake. In fact, I probably make about the same face DDNK makes if someone presents him with a great scotch. So for that reason, I'm not big on sugar-laden drinks involving liqueurs, fruit juices, syrups, etc.

Margaritas are not at all a frou frou drink. Neither is gin and tonic, whiskey/mixer, rum/mixer, etc. When you start adding liqueurs, you're getting there, and when you combine something like blue cointreau with pineapple juice, you're all the way there, whether you've got an umbrella in your drink or not.

yeah thats why I added IMO at the end of what i said. shoulda bolded it i suppose, but I think the majority of peoples palates tend to lean towards favoring sweet drinks- could however be wrong

Wait, how the **** is that 50% vodka - a clear liquid - and 50% bailey's - a coffee-colored liquid?

First, my taste palate is universal, so no to your first point.

Second, there is no way that all the people who "hate" fu fu drinks have anti-sweet palates.

Third, the umbrella is the best part.

Tell me you weren't talking about fishbowls

I'm not sure how they're made other places, but the place we went in college made them with 50% grain alcohol, 50% fruit juice.

I only drink whiskey neat when it's 90 degrees out and I'm sitting on the beach in swimming trunks.

Order what you want. Who cares. I was eating nachos the other night and ordered a blueberry beer where they put whole blueberries in it so it looks like an Orbitz. A friend was like "lol girl beer." It was delicious and refreshing and a perfect compliment to the nachos. Enjoy your ****ing 9% mud beer that fills you up and leaves all of the delicious nachos for me.

Also, a while back I was with a friend and I ordered something like a pomegranate martini. It was basically just straight pomegranate vodka. He orders a gin and tonic that looked to be 80%+ tonic. I'd argue that the one with triple the alcohol isn't in second place just because it has a pink hue.

This is close enough. I was trying to find the bar scene in Wayne's World where Garth is drinking exactly what I had in mind but my youtube skills are obv lacking.

Is a "Fru Fru" drank really considered innapropriate? I kinda wanna only buy these types of drinks for now on just to see what type of reaction I get.

When appropriate?

Anytime when you are South of the Tropic of Cancer or North of the Tropic of Capricorn.

Exceptions:
  1. When you are in a boat or plane where the next port will be within the paramaters listed above.
  2. On any island during summer months.
  3. On a boat, docked boat or boat dock during the summer months.*

*may have to be wearing white pants in some areas.

Depends on what constitutes a fru-fru drink- Abundance of fruit juice, flavoured alcohol, novelty glass, paper umbrella, crazy amount of tropical fruit skewered together and placed jauntily on top of the beverage? Is it just some vague feeling of shame when ordering or drinking?
I feel that when having a cocktail you should really be drinking something you enjoy. So if you are a girl drink drunk stand tall and try to avoid poking anyone's eye out with that umbrella.
