My god, would you please stop with the whole "I haven't said my opinion yet." You clearly have. Otherwise you wouldn't have spent so much time defending this ridiculous law.

Well, I guess that's the difference between us. I think people should be allowed to drink beer if they want in situations where it puts nobody in danger, like in the backseat of a car or walking on the sidewalk.

You on the other hand would apparently hate to see people have the freedom to drink beer where they want even though it doesn't put anybody in danger.

Let's just agree to disagree then.

Some parts of Ireland recently decriminalized drinking and driving.

Also, road beers ate standard. From Canada here, and we have the same stupid open alcohol laws here but lol **** that.

A group of us regularly go to my buddy and his wife's house to drink beer and hang out in their backyard. Me and buddy decide to buy fireworks every now and then. We always take a beer or 2 with is for the walk to the corner store for fireworks, and then later, the whole group takes drinks and walks down to the park to set them off from the baseball field.

I have not defended this law. I have defended the logic behind not breaking the law. What country do you live in?

Lol at freedom. Give me online poker back; I could give two ****s about hammering beers in the backseat of a car. I checked Yak's country's tolerance, and it's worse than America: 0.05% compared to 0.08% and 0.02% for people driving less than 5 years, lol. You guys live in countries where the minority drives vehicles, and the tolerance is even stricter.

0.05%? What's that, like a half of a beer? What's 0.02%, a sip? If that were imposed in America, every damn car would be pulled over for sobriety testing, and no one would get to where they are going at night.

Come to Vegas. You can walk from casino to casino with drinks in your hand and there is no last call. You want a beer at 7am when people are ordering breakfast? No one will bat an eye.

Are there really a lot of passenger drinking going on in cars (in US)? Is this really an issue to be so boldly arguing about it? I don't remember anytime I was riding in a friend's car, or any of my friends in my car, drinking a beer.

The law as it is in the state you live in, right? Because it isn't the law everywhere.

Another guy came like 1/2 hour before the fight and was like "I didn't eat any appies not paying" and proceeds to watch the main event eating leftover wings for free.

The night before when we went to Costco I chopped the food with my friend, and then after getting demoed at the casino tossed him my last 4 greens and said I'd cover the overhead for the show and to give me cash for those that paid.

Never saw a cent. He pocketed the $125, making $25 profit somehow (plus like 2/3 of the food left over), leaving me paying for everything.

Yeah I'm still kinda pissed about it, but it's a pretty cheap lesson to see how people close to you treat you - then you just cull them afterwards. I'm always amazed at how little people are willing to sell their pride for.
****ty story but not at all surprising, I stopped hosting these things years ago for similar reasons.

Now I just go to Buffalo Wild Wings and watch for the cost of whatever I spend on beer and substandard food, ez game

Apparently, it's super standard. Outside of seeing it in high school and a little in college, it's news to me.

Edit: re: SoCal
7 states are cool with it, and one of them allows you to drink booze as you drive, so long as you stay under 0.08%, which seems a tad risky.

Careful there chief, you don't have a sterling track record when it comes to estimations.

Fortunately, there are many variables to disguise this shortcoming when it comes to BAC levels.

the only time i remember drinking beer in a car was a couple hour drive to a tailgate for a football game

i would guess it's somewhat popular to do in that situation

While I don't see being able to drink as a passenger in a car as a big deal, I see absolutely no reason why it should be illegal (and don't see at all why the tolerance level for a driver is relevant to this issue). I'm sure cops like the law as they like any law that gives them more power, but don't see how it helps them actually do their job better. If they pull someone over, they can always test the driver if he appears drunk - regardless of whether the passenger has a beer.

I will note that I think the idea of taking a few beers for the road from a party seems odd to me. The drinks, food, etc. are for the party. Unless the host offers you a drink for the road, it would seem like a party-foul to just take drinks (same would go with taking food from the party). If you need another drink, then stay at the party and drink it there.

Can't believe this has to be said:

Driver drinks while driving. Sees cop. Gives drink to passenger.

It's an obvious tactic, so as long as it's illegal for the driver to be actively drinking, I understand why it's illegal for passengers to do so as well.

Yak - I think you are just making up units now, right?

Yeah not sure how the BAC worked, Ugl = micro-gram per liter.

It's 0.05% and 0.02% BAC, so basically, don't plan on having fun at the bar and getting behind the wheel. Have a couple of pints and let your friends get wasted while you work on getting below .05% to drive them home while they keep drinking in your car.

Under this logic passengers should also not be allowed to be on hand held devices while in the car.

All I was saying is that drinking behind the wheel is legal where Im from, wouldn't ever do it myself.

In Ontario, it's illegal to have any alcohol in a car that's easily accessible to the driver. You can't have an open container of alcohol anywhere the car, which includes a liquor bottle in a bag on the back seat that's closed but has the seal broken. And I think you can't have any bottle in the front seat, even if the seal hasn't been broken.
