i honestly don't know where you people are eating where you are paying $90 for a steak. i've eaten at a lot of steakhouses in chicago, vegas, and ny, and spent some time yesterday looking over steakhouse menus on menupages yesterday, and really found that almost all "high end steakhouses" charge roughly $45 for their steaks. $90 is what they charge for "steak for two" at most places.

oh i just assumed tony p pulled a number out of thin air to prove a point - fwiw i've paid up to $70 for a steak before maybe a lil higher (if it was kobe)

your point though still stands and it's usually iirc in the $50 range (and is even more compelling argument to eat at a nice steakhouse vs. eating in and cooking it urself)

um... there is a massive difference between $50 for a steak (still LOL to me but whatever) and $90. I have no clue where the $90 number came from. I would never pay $90 for a steak.

X posting from the NC thread

I just spent $75 on about 40 steaks. Tenderloin, NY strip & Prime Rib. I have to cut & cook them myself.

I still rather be a balla though.

Henry17,
You are some unique creature. You need to start up a blog or something. Maybe get your brain examined by scientists from all over the world. What do you do for a living? Who are you? What do you do? Pics please?

Back on topic of cooking, I love short quick meals also at the same time I hate eating over seasoned, buttered up food which is like all the food that you can get when you dine in (or is it dine out? meh). Besides, dining in sucks, especially alone, god have mercy on your souls if you guys ever decide to do. Whenever I think of doing such a thing, I think of that one scene from that Forgetting Sarah Marshall where Peter decides to go dine in alone. It's a tempting thing to do, but I need company to do that and not all my college friends are into spending money eating out.

I don't know about you guys, but getting food outside the home, sometimes takes longer, unless you are ordering takeout, but then again the food in takeout are just gross. Well most foods. Maybe we should have another thread on quick easy healthy meals at restaurants featuring Henry17.

The key to quick meals at home is to cook and clean at the same time! It's like multi-tabling, you just got to be good at it. And once you get good at that, you can start doing stuff like watching tv or put your laptop in the kitchen and watch a poker video. That way you are hitting 3 birds with one stone!

What I did when I first started out, and you should to, is get a George Foreman Grill. Cook chicken breast all day , season to however you like. And when you are cooking chicken breast with this grill, it leaves little to no residue for you to clean up, so cleaning is at it's minimal. Also you need to make sure you got carbs, get a rice cooker. All you have to do is get a cup of rice, and some water, put it in the rice cooker and press a button. Takes about minute to do that. All this should take you about 2 mins of your time, and like 20 mins at max of waiting time if you do it right. Those 20 minutes you can do whatever while your food is cooking. Go jerk off, watch an episode of South Park, go cut your hair, trim your pubes, the possibilities are endless.

Another to thing to make sure you do, is to check if the food is throughly cooked.Don't go and try and make medium-rare chicken breast, that simply does not work. I bet henry17 tried and do that the first time cooking and now he just eats out all the time.

I always wanted to do this, but for just one person it just isn't efficient. By the time I get through the whole thing, the meat would have already spoiled. I probably should look into adopting a child from Africa.

It's a lot more maintenance for a lot less meat.

I did pull the $90 number out of air. I've been to restaurants that were over $100 per person I dunno how much I've paid for a steak though.

If you can afford it def go the hire someone to cook for you route. Its ****ing nice, I dont have to go grocery shopping and make out of list of **** to get or remember, I dont have to figure out wtf to cook, I dont have to spend time cooking or cleaning, and I get a ton of variety and eat lots of different meals than I would make for myself (which I just end up eating the same 3 or 4 things when I make food for myself cuz its easier). It costs me $200/week but its ****ing worth it for me and Im much healthier cuz I dont get lazy and end up getting crap cuz I ran out of groceries and didnt go to the store or cuz Im too tired after the gym to cook.

I love buying the whole primal in the cryovac packages, and cutting/prepping them myself. Then freeze, since I'm only cooking for me or two people at a time.

Very cost-effective too! Tenderloin is so versatile. Steaks! Steak sandwiches! Yum.

High end steaks are probably $40-50. Drinks, sides, appetizer...that's probably the other half.

Yes, I would love to have a well-prepared steak for $45 at a nice steakhouse. I would also like to have 3+ steaks of the same size for $45 total and prepare it myself, which isn't a lot of preparing. But I have confidence in my ability to cook a steak just how I like it. If you do not, then I can see how the going out option kills cooking in option in satisfaction.

chippa,

can i get a whole primal at a std grocery? whole foods? my butcher? costco?

i probably wouldn't do this basically ever as my gf is a vegetarian, but for a party or something. i'm guessing if i want a whole primal from WF, they're going to rape me on price?

I think the most expensive steak I've had was like $56 for the Porterhouse at Daniel's in Seattle. Throw in drinks, sides, aps, dessert, tip- $100 easy.

You live in Chicago? If so, there's lots of butcher shops and meat packers around that you can get this from. Try Peoria Packing Butcher Shop. It's on Lake St. between Ashland and Halsted. Right by the el tracks. The place is huge, with an incredible selection of meats.

BJs and Sams Club have them. Google butcher or meat market for your area and try to dig up some online ads. This place I've been going to has ridiculous sales all the time.

For costco and most meat departments, just ask at the counter. You should be able to see the meat cutters work. The bulk rate should be less than the packaged rate or walk away.
