That one's a little artsy fartsy. An OOTV movie thread would be better for us common folks. Ain't nobody in OOT gives a **** about a Dutch whatever. Sorry schu.

So I opened the Life is fkd thread and it took me to the new site but most other threads it opens in the traditional site. How can I make all threads open in the traditional site? For the foreseeable future I won't be using the new site.

The issue isn't that the new site isn't as good as the traditional site (it's not close), it's that I don't want to deal with switching layouts in the middle of reading threads as it's a PITA if you know what I mean.

I haven't read a single poster chiming in to celebrate the new site.

Fwiw, when I initially replied to the thread, it was the old format.

Correct. One of the bugs with the new site is the thread poster drives the other people's visual experience, rather than letting each user choose which they prefer.

Just a terrible, terrible implementation. On the order of, "you should go work elsewhere," if this were a professional development environment.

It all depends on which site the thread was created on. I was tipped off on a bug where if you click on a user name, go to threads created, then click on the thread it always opens in the old site. I did that and commented in javanewt's TR in LVL hoping it would then be saved as old site in my subscriptions, but nope. If I click it in subs it goes to the new version. We're just screwed whenever people create them on the new version, I guess.

It's going to be an easy decision for us old folks as to what to do when the new format dominates the site. I feel comfortable in saying old people hate change and many won't be bothered to accept it and adapt.

You young whippersnappers are going to have to make a choice. It seems the owners think you will prefer the new format--or why did they bother to change it? Enjoy!

I think the solution is easy. I think the majority will just stop using the website, and I know I will except for pools, squares, etc.

always happy to accept change when it benefits me

I see the replies in the threads are nested so I have to click multiple times to see answers or am I doing it wrong? May be the latter.

If you can make it look and feel remotely like vBulletin I can weather the change like when they went to vBulletin in the first place.

I understand it was written from scratch? With all of the forums software out there, some has to be open source? To custom write an app in this day and age is crazy unless you need some very specific functionality that you can't ever do with an off the shelf product, then maybe.

Fixing things that don’t need fixing.

I immediately reverted to the original format and never looked back.
02-25-2025 , 10:51 AM
Same. I tried to stick to the new one but it's only barely usable imo

What is the simplest, most polite way to discourage anyone in the office from ever talking to you?
02-26-2025 , 01:19 AM
tell them you have a rapidly developing otosclerosis, once they get tired of repeating themselves in an increasingly louder tone of voice you should be in the clear
02-26-2025 , 01:16 PM
Quit your job, obviously.

Tell them you would be glad to write a letter of recommendation as they obviously should be working elsewhere because they are currently overqualified, underpaid, and underappreciated in this shithole.

You've heard of resting bitch face? Cultivate resting raving lunatic face, that way people go out of the way to avoid talking to you and you don't have to say a word.

Loudly fart whenever someone engages.

In other news, Target sent me an email that access to card services would be down from the 11th to the 18th so they can implement a whole new look.

It's unfathomable to me how this takes a site down for a week. Run parallel servers (if it's something major like a framework change), do beta for a while. If it's not something major, there's no excuse.

I can't imagine a CFO-type person getting told, "Hey, the card site is going to be down for a week while we implement the new look," and the immediate response being anything other than, "You're fired." Perhaps prefaced by "Are you ****ing kidding me?"
02-26-2025 , 04:41 PM
They just write it off, Jerry.
02-26-2025 , 05:17 PM
You don't even know what a write off is.
