It's too early. Well, for a Tuesday. Tonight, though.

I am pro-locking/banning. But what appeals to the regulars might not be the most appealing to others, and might not be the best for the forum. So I dunno.

Are we sure Code wasn't suggesting just that?

Something else to consider that I think Code and others overlook.

When someone posts a genuine OP, the advice they get here is top notch. Many of the posters here have great experience and wisdom and offer it to many that are seeking it.

If every bad thread was allowed through, you would get significantly less opportunities for people to seek this wisdom, as there would be collective fatigue. It is much more valuable for someone to post a serious thread and be responded to by someone like Alobar, Holliday, El Diablo, etc. Then someone post something dumb and Code 3 posts "lol".

I'm not advocating that no thread ever gets locked, just that you don't go full Dids and lock and ban everything that doesn't "fit your vision for OOT". And I have under 1000 posts in 12 years, I don't think I'm going around posting low content "lol" type posts.

Holliday is a great poster but I still laughed at the joke.

We need more FACK posters from SE. That thread is OOT for people who don't OOT, along with some who do, and those posters are way above replacement level. OOT doesn't need more below replacement level posters making their way here from NVG/BBV.

Perhaps I should spend more than zero time in SE.
02-21-2017 , 07:30 PM
Interestingly, SE is kinda the reason I think OOT should give random non-regular posters more leeway. Because I find SE to be very insular and kinda cliquey-feeling, which is off-putting.

Well, if you're giving up Politics I guess SE is sort of similar.

I think code and larry are both merited. It would be amusing to have a few days of fodder from dimwitted OPs, though it is a completely useless pursuit-- potentially a negative externality on the entire site.

Tuma,

I like your new avatar. It makes me think of a dog off his head after having a choof and trying his best to drive home safely.

Choof is a new word for me. Thank you!

Greg,

Thanks so much for the update. Sounds like it may be worth starting to read again.

Americans,

During this visit I noticed a lot of people Facetime in public places. At a crosswalk, in a restaurant, in a mall, in a store, in a casino, etc. Is this deemed to be in good fashion? In some instances I found it quite rude too be honest, just like making a phonecall in a restaurant, Facetiming seems not done to me. Is my moral compass set on EU and is it perfectly fine in the US, or have I just ran into some weirdo's?
02-24-2017 , 02:34 AM
The majority of Americans are rude, inconsiderate *******s. Their only concern is themselves. They couldn't care less how what they're doing affects people around them.

You didn't run into some weirdos. You ran into today's America.

GMLaw,

I am not American, Aussie here. Personally I would not use Facetime in a public place but then again if I get a phone call and I am out and about I tend to cut the call short as I like to just focus on getting done what I need to do. So if a long conversation is needed I will just call them back when I get home. Possibly I am a weirdo though as I often forget to take my phone with me anyway

facetiming in a mall omg the nerve

+1 from another American.

This is the age of narcissism.
