Anyone here actually use it and/or care about it? Women I've lived with all seem to use it, but I've never cared or noticed a difference when compared to the loads I run myself. Is this just a giant scam or what.

You really dont notice the difference in the way the clothes smell? I do, a lot, hence why I use it, even though it is supposed to cause cancer.

edit: but as far as softer fabrics go? I dont know, never paid attention.

I notice it, but I don't like it and don't use it when I do laundry. It basically puts a slight amount of waxy buildup on your clothes and that's how it achieves its effect.

Also, regular users should clean out their dryers periodically:

I use dryer sheets.
They have a pretty obvious effect on static electricity.

Dryer sheets I use. Good point of clarification: I am talking about the liquid you put in the washing machine at some magic point in the wash cycle.

it's basically in the same category as hair conditioner for me; i'm sure it makes a difference but would never buy it separately. i'll happily use an all-in-one product though.

I heard somewhere that you shouldn't use it with towels b/c it f***s up their absorption ability. My wife does the laundry and yes, I intentionally used "f***s" so as to make this thread and my involvement in it slightly less embarassing.

I quit using dryer sheets 2 or 3 years ago... they don't make an appreciable difference other than the smell they impart onto clothes, but they otherwise seems like a mugs game. I've not had any problems with hard fabric needing to be softened. Furthermore, mountain springs and various other dryer sheet scents don't really layer that well with colognes or aftershaves.

Oh crap I thought you were talking about dryer sheets. I don't know what fabric softener is and neither does my wife.

I thought this was about dryer sheets too... is it not?
If you're talking about the liquid you have to time in between the cycles I never have and never will use that stuff.

It was until this post that I realized he wasn't referring to dryer sheets. I never use the liquid softener stuff, never even considered it really. I was "brought up" using dryer sheets.

I like the smell of the dryer sheets but really have no basis for comparison as to whether or not they work. On those occasions when I've forgotten to include one I don't recall any subsequent static cling or other issues so maybe they're pointless.

Just like most shaving creams are a huge scam and do nothing but give one an idea of where they've already shaved, it could be that the entire fabric softener market is about to come crashing down if Cl.a.rk decides to call them out.

Verdict: ban Dids.

I only do like 2 loads of laundry every 1-2 weeks and they usually have clothes in them that specifically say to not use fabric softener (thermals, work out clothes) so I don't.

Never was really aware of the liquid stuff until I moved in with my current roommate. I've attempted to use it three times, but keep forgetting to put it in after the first rinse. I will say that I think it makes your cloths smell better than the sheets, which is what I've always used previously, but sheets are just easier to use for my dumb ass.

If it goes in at the correct time (last rinse) it works well for smell. Certain types of fabrics seem softer but I would not say it will make jeans softer.

Could also be that some clothes seem softer because I use it and need to think that its working.

I use dryer sheets (didn't even know these had a name until this thread).

I have no idea what they do or how they work (other than make clothes smell better) so I have no basis for comparison.

I had to use the liquid when I roomed with a guy whose washing machine had the liquid intake.

Ban Dids before he comes in and tells us all to swandive into a pool of knives for wasting our money on this product.

GRUNCHING
Liquid fabric softener is the ****ing nuts. I use it on all my undergarmets (boxers, socks, tshirts) and they smell good and feel better.

i use it on towels as well and they smell good all week. You aren't supposed to use it on towels because it basically coats the fabric in slippery fat and keeps it from being as absorbent. I don't buy ghetto cheap towels so my towels are still absorbent anyways.
