Why worry about a traffic stop btw? Smell? Put it in an airtight hard plastic container, cuts the smell down near zero. Dogs will still smell it.

Anyone ever tried decarbing before smoking? Few anecdotal reports that it makes it stronger, or at least different. I'm planning on making a tincture soon, so ill try it with some of that.

Yeah, and I still think about it. I want to get this place paid off, first though.

(Yes, smell) It's true and I don't mean that I'm crazy-paranoid but it's just one more thing. Yeah I should throw the zip in a mason jar or something.

Yeah, ziplocks do nothing. The other thing that works well if you need it to be flexible is oven bags. Do a way better job than other flexible plastics.

Haven't but curious to hear what the results are.

It gets decarbed instantly when it is ignited and also I believe when vaped at a high temp. You can definitely still smoke decarbed weed, I just don't know if it will help.

"decarbing" weed sounds like something a militant Keto'r would do. I'm curious about the process, though.

It's short for "decarboxylating". It just means heating it to convert the THC from inactive to active form. Has to be done before edibles will work. Smoking/vaping achieves the same thing, the question is how efficient that conversion is. Maybe decarbing it first means more active ingredient when you smoke, maybe it makes no difference.

So when I touch the lighter to the bowl, I'm decarbing my weed? :-) All these years, and I never knew.

Serially, thanks for the info/response. The more you know...

I'm pretty sure decarbing in oven or whatever doesn't turn 100% into thc so igniting it will still be decarbing some of it. sous vide decarb supposedly gets 100% decarbed.

Is this english? I still have no idea what decarbing means

ChrisV's explanation above is on point: "It just means heating it to convert the THC from inactive to active form."

A bit more background: the cannabis plant produces THCA, which doesn't get you high. Decarbing is the process of converting the THCA to THC, which does get you high. You can decarb as a distinct process, or you can rely on the heat of ignition or vaping to decarb on the fly when you're smoking/vaping.

Google is hard.

By the same token, so is writing coherently.

But, point taken.

What was incoherent? If you google decarboxylation you could understand. My post wasn't even an explanation of decarbing, I was talking to ChrisV and his notion that decarbing first is better while smoking herb.

ChrisV: Here is a decent article and some sous vide results. I only sous vide to decarb now. I don't smoke much at all, I tend to do edibles and oil vape or vape. 200 degrees for 1 hr 40 minutes. I'd just smoke your herb straight up rather than go through the trouble unless you are making tincture or edibles of some sort.

Sure you can set the temperature wherever you want, but oven temperatures tend to fluctuate, which means you are really only setting the average temperature. For baking a pie this is just fine, but we have to be a little concerned with temperature spikes vaporizing the very cannabinoid we are trying to tinker with. The boiling point of THC is 314.6°F but many other potentially medicinal compounds in cannabis can be lost at lower temperatures. Standing by the oven checking the thermometer every few minutes pretty much sucks.

Sample 3 at 1 hour and 40 minutes was 100% decarboxylated. It appears this would to be a sufficient time and temperature to decarboxylate cannabis with the sous-vide method. Further experiments could reduce this time but batch size, density and starting THC level could also require adjustments. Unless you are going to have your batch lab tested I would not cut down the time or temperature.

Yeah I'm making a tincture. I'll keep some aside and see if I notice any obvious difference smoking it. My guess is there will be no difference. Side note: We don't have Everclear or any equivalent here, so I've had to order some Polish hyper-strong vodka (95% ethanol) which was $US 50 for a pint bottle

Thanks for the article prana. Looks like a solid result. That small THC loss is better than you're going to get with any other decarb method I'd guess. I'll definitely use sous vide to decarb mine. Will have to check if my vacuum seal plastic is rated for that temperature.

haha be careful with the tincture chris. i only make tincture from my abv and 5 droppers gets me wrecked. id imagine 1-2 droppers would do the job from regular decarbed bud

Yeah I'm a lightweight so ill try not to make it too strong. What ratio do you use?
Do you love this s***? Are you high af right now? Quote

i use 4oz of everclear per half ounce. idk how much thc is left in abv but if you use that ratio with 20%thc bud it would be a lil over 20mg of thc per ml

Ive never tried a tincture. Are effects different than typical edible consumption?

theyre the same but i kinda feel they kick in faster than edibles. i always mix a couple droppers with soda and rip it loke a shot but you can drop the tincture under the tongue so it gets into the bloodstream right away so you should feel the effects almost immediately.
