The point is that in essence a light saber with a guard is actually a lot more sense than one without and the whole, whoa, you would cut yourself thing is BS.

Optimally the whole guard would be laser not just the pointy bits at the end.

If only the lightsaber had a curved guard so you could catch your opponent's lightsaber and roll it back at them and make them hit themselves.

Maybe the material on that lightsaber has a rubber band like effect so the opponent's lightsaber bounces off and they hit themselves. The possibilities really are endless. Brilliant design, just brilliant.

Ya. I originally skipped them because of the guys dumb voice but I eventually sat down and watched them like years after they came out and learnt so much about how films tell stories.

Because ep 1-3 versus ep 4-6 look similar on the surface but differ at the core they make a pretty good case study for effective writing/directing/editing.

All this stuff about the LS crossguard stopping sliding blades doesn't really have any basis IMO ,I can't find one instance in which a persons hand was cut off by a LS from the blade sliding down. Everyone who got their hand chopped off had it done by a distinct movement, not a slide. I'm sure I've seen somewhere that the plasma from the LS doesn't allow it to slide when in contact from other light sabers. So I think just parroting a lot of that when there's no proof that it's even possible as reasoning for the ridiculous guard is offbase.
