Also, I assume a hilt is most useful when the opponent's blade is sliding down your blade towards your hand. But the 'light' part of the hilt doesn't start until a few inches out from the main shaft so the opponent's blade is just going to hit the non-light part - which it should be able to cut right through. And if it can't cut right through it, just make the whole hilt out of that material.

Spoiler:

The events in this film are supposed to take place 30 years after Return of the Jedi.

It's a bit disappointing that the Rebel Alliance still seems to be fighting the Empire.

Also, Tatooine is boring. They don't need to keep going back there.

Maybe it's his first DIY lightsaber, what with the Sith being extinct last we knew there may not be someone to teach him

I understand that you all are jaded because of I-III, but you gotta move and so you can realize that if it's a given that more movies will be made, what we know so far only can lead us to believe these are the best possible sequels that could happen in the world we live in.

Maybe the trailer isn't as awesome as it could be, and maybe the movies won't exactly recapture the magic of the originals, but I think, so far, it has the right tone, and I think at the very least they'll give us movies that feel like Star Wars in a way that I-III completely missed.

As a non-star wars fan, I have to say that trailer makes the new movie look like incredibly boring garbage. I guess they have 7 months of teasers to fix that though.

Already got more enjoyment out of this trailer than I-III combined.

Lightsaber nits are preposterous.

I can remember feeling excited when I saw the first Episode I teaser.

I'm getting that same feeling....

Lightsaber is super lame pandering bs.

Hey, it was a story-line that Americans can identify with.

Leave it to starwars nerds to debate about the hilt on a lightsaber. The concept of a light-saber doesn't make any damn sense, so get over it.

Movies always look boring when there isn't hardly any finished material to use in the trailer.

Hilt is dumb but really who cares it won't be the reason this movie sucks if it ends up sucking.

You guys realize you're posting on an online forum (most of us in the middle of the day) about a sci-fi movie that isn't being released for over a year? I don't think anybody should be throwing the word 'nerd' around lightly. Glass houses and all.

Somehow they found a way to make a lightsaber even less practical and more dangerous for the wielder.

I dub thee, SITHCALIBER!

I don't think using forums or liking Star Wars are exactly nerd niche in 2014.

It's actually a lot more sensible than the absurd two bladed lightsaber from Episode one, which would be an excellent way to cut your own leg off.

How is the hitch at all sensible? As jjshabado already pointed out it wouldn't help block another saber because of the way it's designed. At least the double bladed lightsaber allowed for a different, exciting style of fighting.

Anyway, I enjoyed the trailer.

Maybe the light saber resistant hilt material is really heavy? **** I don't know. But I do know that it makes sense for there to be a hilt on a sword. Swords always have hilts, for good reason. There is no weapon like the double bladed lightsaber in episode one in real life. It's a quarterstaff where you can't grip it except for like a one and a half foot part in the middle. Ridiculous.

I liked the trailer too, looked great.

All this talk about the hilt but only one mention of the weirdest thing which is how wonky/wild/ghetto the actual light looks.

I'm excited to see any content...when do we get a real trailer...a couple months from now?
