It is kind of depressing that the story being told by Andor, with its depth, ends with horses galloping over a spaceship.

That episode was everything, and I can't stop thinking about it. Andy Serkis and Stellan Skarsgard just putting on an acting clinic.

Really liking this show. Just alll around good stuff. But the empire has a serious video surveillance problem on all their ships, bases and now prison. In every movie or show rebels are running around ships and bases and are never spotted on any camera. Try doing that stuff at a casino or even a 7 eleven.

Whatever you think about that, it's clear that that isn't a blind spot of the show's creators. The most recent arc included them making a point of Cassian highlighting the fact that the Empire had become prideful and complacent, and unwilling to put much effort into surveillance as long as the prison labor was cranking out the material output it was supposed to. That's why he and Kino were able to just openly plan a prison break.

The Empire is tracking Mon Mothma (or at least she expressed her view that they were) because she's a high-profile dissenter. But tracking the masses just doesn't seem like it's where they wanted to put their resources. They only took the rebellion seriously after it was too late to easily put that fire out.

Obviously what LKJ said, but this prison didn't even have doors on individual cells because the floor was electrified most of the time. I'm not sure they cared much about video surveillance especially since it seems like it was a prison filled with a lot of seemingly non-violent "criminals."

Of course I agree, but the whole thing is just a fantasy space opera. You can pick and choose what you like and don’t however you want. I pretend like the sequels don’t exist and that the vague memories of the SW EU books I read as a kid are “canon.”

I was pointing more to the missed opportunity.

When someone asks me the last time I changed my mind about something, I'm gonna say "Andor".

The whole thing is a triumph of careful writing and storytelling. The whole thing is just brilliant, from the world building to acting to the pacing.

Andy Serkis stole the whole thing with his arc though. Amazing performance.

The pacing is very clever.

Build up then escape from Ferrix, build up then robbery, build up then escape from prison.

Everything about this show seems so well considered.

The pacing is also allowed for by the 12-episode length. It has helped this show considerably that not every episode has to be a new climax in the series.

Only 2 episodes left so that might indicate the pace is going to have to pick up to arrive at the finale.

Well it won't be a finale, it'll be a cliff hanger as there will be a s2

The only thing that is bringing me down at this point is having to wait until 2024

It's interesting how much more evil the Empire are in Andor, its the biggest contribution to the wider theatre of Star Wars imo.

Now when I watch the OG films I can hate on the empire even more.

They blew up a whole planet just to apply leverage on one prisoner in New Hope but Andor made flavour in food seem more sinister.

Yep. Like the Welles example of a man’s willingness to make a dot stop moving for a million dollars, the obliteration of a planet in one press of a button is the kind of thing that can feel less viscerally awful than its reality because the reality is too big to process. But Dedra relishing the overseeing of a slow, brutal torture sequence really makes you live in full understanding of the evil at play.

This also seems to be perhaps the first SW property where the Stormtroopers actually seem menacing?

Also little touches like not taking any prisoners with Krugers raid.

The desire to kill everyone for daring trumps the obvious pragmatic and rational act of taking prisoners.

Its a subtle but important tension between Dedra and ISB, where Dedra has a more rational understanding of control and power where as the ISB is a tool of the evil whimsy of the Emperor, said whimsy being the reason for his downfall.

Wow didn't realize this. Looked into it and sad but true. S1 took 3 years, was friggin great. So much better without a bunch of merchandising gimmicks running around

I, for one, will buy a stuffed Luthen as soon as they put one on the market.

With The Mandolorian season 3 getting close, I realized I'm behind on Star Wars shows. Do i need to watch any others to be up to speed on Mando and his happenings between 2 and 3? I know Obi-Wan probably has no relevance.....i also know he does show up in Boba Fett for a short time. Anything else to consider?

My partner likes both Mandalorian and Andor but has never really watched the films.

We therefore did a full rewatch of Episodes I-IX and Rogue One, in the order they were released at the cinema on consecutive evenings, finishing with Ep.IX last night. Some of it was very hard going. Anyway, here are mainly her thoughts with a few of mine thrown in.

- She thought Phantom Menace was pretty good. I've never hated this movie as much as some, despite it's obvious problems.
- Rise of Skywalker and Attack of the Clones are the worst two in both our opinions, with Skywalker somehow being worse than Clones.
- The Last Jedi is still a bad movie, but not as bad as I remember. However, it still carries a lot of the responsibility for TRoS being so bad. She thought it was okay, but still the third worst behind Clones and Skywalker.
- The Force Awakens is a pretty solid movie, despite the fact I was lukewarm originally. It does what it needed to do.
- She thought ANH and ESP were the best two (duh) along with Rogue One.
- She was fairly neutral on RotS and RotJ.
- She is completely unaware Solo exists.
