Maybe 1000.
500 is only 10 per state. I think 5,000 is probably closer.

I dunno. Any publicity can be good publicity, and it's not like the WNBA has much to lose.

I would love to see a series where they play the #1 boys team... then the #10 boys team... then the #100 boys team... then the #500 boys team. I wonder how far down the list till they won.

you guys are underestimating how hard it will be for the high school team to adapt when they have to deal with a person to person defense for the first time.

I'm positive that even a non elite hs boys team could roll a wnba team as long as they ran a full court press and trapped. women are terribad at beating the presses and traps.
Yeah, a solid zone trap destroys teams when there is a huge athletic disparity.

Interesting thread, a couple thing I know for sure.

- I went to a high school with 2000+ enrollment. Our men's team would not beat a WNBA team.

- Anyone saying an average 8th grade boy's grade team would beat an WNBA team is ******ed.

- There are PLENTY of high school men's team's that CAN beat a random WNBA.

- Off hand, Lisa Leslie, Candice Parker, Brittney Griner (Baylor), and Michelle Snow all can dunk. There's definatly more...

- WNBA players are a lot better than most people in this thread are willing to believe.

- No one in this thread could beat a WNBA player one on one.

Funniest part of this video is how invested the dude watching this game is for women's basketball. He better have money on that game, or else WTF is he doing? Did his remote's batteries run out and he has broken legs and thus is bed-ridden?

Someone posted about the mosh pit of rebounding in women's basketball, we get to see a perfect example of this in that first 20 seconds too.

They would typically get up around 6-0 and then start a competition of who could nutmeg (kick ball through legs) the most girls.

The only girl who could even come close to competing was a girl who went to Notre Dame and started as a true freshman on the NCAA runner-up. She is good enough that she has a shot to make the national team when she graduates. Even she would have been a middle of the road player on the mens JV.

We won because we were way more physical, but their technical skills were fantastic and there is no way that my good high school team (1600 enrollment) would have dominated them--it would have probably been a decent game.

as far as hoops, yeah I agree that good boys' HS basketball teams will win mostly because they're so much taller and more athletic, but I think a WNBA team is definitely a favorite over an average HS team. There are so many small and crappy high schools out there, and the WNBA starting lineups are about as tall as most average HS teams and their basketball skills are way better.

Additionally, we had a top 16 in the country womens soccer team who got beat by a bunch of football players, only two of whom had ever played soccer. On athleticism alone they were able to boot the ball downfield, outrun the women and dominate despite little to no experience with the sport.
In my country, football is the most loved and played sport. I have seen the top 2 female indoor football teams in the country play IRL in my town and I'm pretty sure I can pick 4 guys who are in my weekend matches to play with me and we would at the bare minimum put up a big fight against either one.

I'm guessing basketball is your equivalent to football when it comes to popularity amongst both genders, so I'm sure a good male high school team would destroy a WNBA team in a match.

Also, to whoever said that people have never heard the name of any chick player except for whoever 2 he listed: I have never heard of those 2, but I have heard of Ticha Penicheiro. I have never seen a WNBA match in my life (nor do I plan to, I struggle to pretend being interested in watching kobe or lebron jumping around lol)

Women's basketball is honestly not comparable to men's basketball.

WEEI sports radio recently was talking to a practice player with the UCONN 70+ win streak team, and he said that when he was playing hard against the women he was literally "unguardable."

It is just so other-worldly different.

on a mens official ball that # would be way small. Are people forgetting that if they played women would shoot way worse with a mens ball or men would make way more shots with womens ball. People who think wnba teams would a stand a chance have never played sports.

I think a lot of it would come down to motivation.
Even the worst teams can beat the elite teams if they are much more motivated to win.
The guys would have all the physical tools to win but I'm not sure if they are mentally strong enough to use them, and to play coherently as a team.
A 14-15 year old AAU team would win for sure but they have much more discipline than most HS teams.
1 on 1 women would stand no chance whatsoever - their only chance is to utilize teamwork and outsmart the men, which is what most HS teams fail miserably at.
I would still take an average men's HS team over the WNBA champs, simply because of the press, fast break, and rebounding wouldn't be close.
In a half court set I could see the women holding their own over a sub par HS team.

I'm not sure that "sure" means what you think it means. There's really no way you could be sure about the first or last one. Especaially the last one.
