This.

Late last summer, was talking with some neighbors out in the cul-de-sac, and said I felt like we're 300 yards into a 400 yard race. We're exhausted, but if we don't finish strong, we're going to go back to the starting line.

Certainly wrong on the percentage we were done with, but the idea holds. Now isn't the time to quit.

I'm going to go ahead and listen to the people who have dedicated their lives to studying and understanding infectious disease like Dr. Fauci.

Masks really should be with us for a very long time especially if boosters will be required every 6-12 months. I am glad they are opening up their businesses/ schools. I live in California and the mentality here is just as wrong in the direction California is taking.

The only issue is that there's a lack of data on pregnant women so they're not positively advised to have the vaccine, but they can if they choose. Women trying to get pregnant are *not* advised to avoid pregnancy after being vaccinated. There's no problem that we know of.

Apparently getting up at 4am is the key to getting appointments in LA - lots of them on there now. I just got confirmed for today.

I am in the group to get the vax, but am hearing that people in my area have been unable to get the second one due to unavailability. I know you can push the date out for the second shot a couple of weeks, but couldn't find any info on how much time would elapse before the second vax wouldn't be effective, if any?

Everything I've read on Moderna places the optimal window for the 2nd shot at 28-42 days. Beyond that, it's not as though the 1st vaccine expires, but rather the antibody building that occurs on shot 2 is starts to lessen. To what degree? That remains unclear. Still better then never getting it, though.

I don't think Florida ever had a statewide mask mandate and they've been famously mostly open for a while.

Mississippi is the state that should be on the list.

And apparently Connecticut should also be catapulted into the sun.

Virginia’s rules are very loose. I qualify on the BMI rule and from a minor skin cancer I had. My wife was able to snag appointments in Roanoke, where a high percentage of people either believe it’s just the flu or that vaccines are a plot to implant microchips or something. I got dose #1 a few days ago.

To answer the earlier question, they didn’t ask me anything at the pharmacy other than for my insurance card.

Anyone sign up for vaccine at Walmart pharmacy? I just signed up for next week based on BMI >=30 criteria. Funny part is I went from like 27 to 30 BMI from basically staying home through pandemic.

Walmart site looked pretty good, asked a lot of medical questions, but didn't ask for email - only address and phone number, so I really don't have proof of appointment. Maybe I'll get a text.

I made appointments for my folks at walmart and made the appointment on their website at the same time I was signing them up. I would check and make sure you didn't miss a link somewhere that would take you to appointment times. Could be different in your state, but I would think it would be consistent everywhere with a big corp like walmart. They got their first doses today. My sister made an appointment with them on Wednesday and got her first dose yesterday. Same deal, she made the appointment at the same time as signing up.

yes, I did choose a specific appointment time at a specific Walmart - just no record of it that I can see.

gotcha. I did get an immediate email confirming the appointment but they did not send an email or text reminder. Maybe check your spam folder if you didn't get the confirmation email.

edit: you said they didn't ask for an email, duh. I guess I got an email because I was automatically signed into my walmart account

Trip report from the LA Forum: In and out in like 25 minutes including the 15 they make you wait after, never got out of the car. Very impressed with the whole system - they could scale that up to just about any level - just need a parking lot, some attendants and some nurses. The covid testing part of the parking lot had like 3 cars waiting. The attendants were throwing the football around. So that’s a ton more space right there.

One reason it moved so well is they basically check nothing except your driver’s license. They never scanned my QR code to make sure I had an appt. The woman who checked me in saw my university employer card and commented on it. But I don’t think she was going to check. I’m fairly convinced anyone could just drive up, say they have an appt and they work in Education and Childcare, and get a shot. Which isn’t a bad thing imo - just get people through as fast as possible.

No symptoms so far. I had good luck getting appts between 4am and 6am.

I had the jab yesterday, this means that all my immediate family have had the vax except my brother, whose job involves cleaning and sanitising factories whose staff have very little regard for COVID protocols.

Yeah it's pretty ridiculous - you can be a 64-year-old diabetic with heart problems working in critical manufacturing and I think you're still not eligible in LA.

Images because I forgot to post them before:

That’s strange. I live 40 miles from Roanoke and preregistered for the vaccine, but I’ve heard absolutely nothing about how to one based on a preexisting condition.

ATM I'm registered at both Walmart and a city location - the first has Moderna, the second has Pfizer. Things have really picked up.

Walmart says they will give you an appt for 2nd shot when there - think maybe city not doing that currently, but I really don't see even 2nd shot coordination being an issue especially like 4 weeks from now when I need it.

Any other reason to go with one over the other?

I'm leaning city/Pfizer just for the in-car delivery of the shot.

Has there been any advice or research done about folks who've been fully vaccinated for 3+ months possibly lining up for more doses once they open up to everyone? I'm assuming there's no national database kept, so a random Walmart wouldn't know you've already had 2 doses unless you showed them your vaccination card. Obviously, it's selfish to get in line with those who haven't had their vaccines yet, but still curious on eligibility and recommendations.

You schedule appointments directly with the pharmacy website after answering some questions. We got in at a Kroger. They were doing 1B, went back to 65+, and are now doing 1B again. Appointments vanish quickly. My wife got ours around 7am one day and they were all gone by 7:30 when my sister tried.

Supposedly, CVS and Walgreens will start taking 1B “soon”

This week I got an appointment for my mom at Rite Aid. They open up their appointments at midnight. The appointment is in eastern PA, but my search included some NJ locations. The PA DOH lists which Rite Aids get the doses each week. Not sure if NJ does the same.

Took Moderna shot #2 last night. As promised, it's kicking my ass. Touch of a headache arrived after 4 hours. First chills started to kick in after 6 hours.
Currently lying in bed, comfortably warm, but very achy. The chills return when I get up. I haven't taken any headache medicine.

GF had this on her second moderna. Alternated ibuprofen and Tylenol every few hours and had vast improvement.

I heard the J&J vaccine is better with the south African variant.
One jab and done is a plus.
