There is actually a lot of research into this question. Your Google search term is reactogenicity and this Nature article provides a very good overview of the topic and is a pretty good read.

The Pfizer and Moderna vaccines are generally worse in terms of side effects because "Exogenous mRNA is inherently immunostimulatory, as it is recognized by a variety of cell surface, endosomal and cytosolic innate immune receptors." In other words, mRNA is rapidly recognized as a foreign substance and triggers rapid, systemic immune response. Historically, this has been the big failure of mRNA which was originally identified as a way to provide highly narrowly tailored drug delivery, but the immune response has always interfered and they have yet to find a successful mRNA drug.

Amen. This is increasingly the case with friends and family as well getting at least one dose and I think that combined with the lower incidence of new cases has everyone feeling cautiously optimistic.

Same here. I had absolutely no side effects after the Pfizer injection I got 9 days ago. Neither did my wife. Wife's mother on the hand had pretty uncomfortable flu-like symptoms for 2 days afterwards. She's early 60's fwiw.

For anyone in the SF Bay Area who is eligible but can't get an appointment, check myturn.ca.gov on Sunday mornings every hour from like 7am through 1pm. I've noticed that they have released a bunch of appointment slots the past 3 Sundays for Oakland Coliseum (drive though) and Moscone Center in SF (walk up).

Both sites are extremely well organized and there is minimal wait time. Was really impressed by how well they were run.

Yeah. It feels like a world of difference. Almost.

Interesting experience here FWIW. Tomorrow I will be four weeks clear of my 2nd Pfizer. I have been very cautious about venturing out for the past year. Yesterday morning I had an ENT appt and nearly had an anxiety attack sitting in a populated, but not shoulder-to-shoulder, waiting room even though everyone was masked.

Yesterday evening my wife and I went out to dinner at a well-spaced table on the patio. It had been exactly one year since my last meal at a restaurant. There was a steady breeze and few people bothered to put a mask on at all even though everyone appeared to have a mask as far as I could tell. However, it felt relaxing and enjoyable--very much a contrast to the feeling in that waiting room several hours before.

I am 3-4 weeks out from having second shot, Pfizer version. Sore arm 12 hours after, that lasted for a day and that was it. Had first meal with mask in a restaurant in just over a year last weekend. What a great feeling.

The logjam has really burst in Virginia. One of my friend groups has been talking about how they can find the vax for weeks. Over the past 5 days 12 out of the 14 unvaccinated people in the conversation have either received or scheduled their first shot.

The state has an official list that they provide to pharmacies along with the doses. The stores are required to contact those people. However, we are hearing upwards of 60% of the people on the list have already been vaccinated and the pharmacies are free to give the rejected doses out to anyone they want on the 1B tier (which is like 75% of the state). We've had big success pursuing those rejected doses in the last few days. I think very soon the problem is going to turn from being one where the scarce supply is frustrating their ability to meet demand into one where they have to make a coordinated effort to reach out to the people who aren't tech savvy or willing to work the phones to snag the next available spot.

I just checked Vaxxmax for VA and it confirms NoSoup's experience, many more appointments available compared to last week. This is just for Richmond/Tidewater though, I don't think there are any RiteAids in Northern VA.

I'm in Virginia, and I still have no idea how to sign up for a vaccine appointment based on preexisting condition. I've checked out CVS, Walgreens, and Kroeger, and I'm also on the preregistration list, and it still tells me I'm ineligible unless I'm 65+ or a primary school teacher.

In PA, Walgreens was only doing 75+. The site wouldn't let you click through unless you are 75+ even though they had multiple options. They eventually changed it so the only option was 75+ and have since changed it to 65+ or an educator.

Rite Aid also changed it this week to educators only.

So for those two pharmacies I don't think a preexisting condition qualifies you even though you qualify in the states current phase.

Is 2000 deaths a day out of 236 million population abnormal?

How many deaths from pneumonia, flu, cancer, and heart disease were ear marked as covid deaths?

Life in Brazil is normal, here is a clip of the night scene taken a week ago:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p_wdcRnJWio

Covid has killed 2.5 million out of 8 billion, which works out to: 0.0003125% of the population, and most of those deaths coming from nursing homes.
Keep living in fear dude. Buy a PowerBall ticket, you have better odds than succumbing to this virus.

This IS NOT HOW MATH WORKS.

It is either a decimal or a %, not BOTH.

Is the reason the idiots thinking it isn't as bad as it is based on poor math skills not understanding the difference between a decimal and a %. You don't solve for the decimal and just plop a % at the end of it.

It is either:
.0003125
-or-
.03125%

Are all these COVID truthers just pulling % of stuff from literature and then running their own calculations, doing the math and adding a % randomly at the end and seeing, SEE, NOT AS LIKELY AS LOTTERY! All because they didnt pay attention during basic stats class because when would they ever need that stuff, they are going to be pumping gas for a living.

My god, people are dumb.

4th Grade Stats Primer
100% is the same as 1.0
10% is the same as 0.10
5% is the same as 0.05
0.1% is the same as 0.001

Shot 2 usually the one with side effects (hopefully not in your case... but I was a little overconfident after no issues from shot one, ended up having fever, fatigue, chills, etc. and had to stay home from work after shot 2).

yeah, but it's a third of a percent of your life, which is months of your life. and if we let the virus run wild, it'd be a lot worse.

and this isn't counting other long term health problems.

2.6 million+ dead, even with massive global shutowns and it's accompanying economic carnage... imagine the numbers with no shutdowns or attempts at social distancing. Even more, imagine the numbers if some brilliant scientists didn't invent a miraculous vaccine in record time.

But people still on here a year later, saying it's a nothingburger. Amazing.

Please be a troll

.03% is a third of .1%

Also, I’m not quoting those as actual numbers meaning anything, just trying to teach basic math to adults.
