Seems more like a way to create chaos.
Grats on getting the first dose!
And good luck in getting the second dose in a timely fashion!

Wow, that's pretty strange. Is that for everyone or just for the people who get it via the waitlist?

I think we've all learned a lot abt that aholecovid. A lot of fear of the unknown has been replaced with data and facts. And while many of us aren't AS concerned as perhaps we were last april, those in low risk groups who can't be bothered to gaf abt spreading to vulnerable ppl surely deserve a swift kick in the balls

People comparing a virus to sugar, car crashes, etc are surely lacking a chromosome /rant

Washington State apparently does it this way too. My mom refers to it as "the hunger games." My folks got shot one, finally, after checking 26 websites a day for weeks. Now they're going to have to do it all over again for the second shot.

Damn! I feel for them. If I'd had to go through the aggravation to schedule the 2nd shot that I did for the first one, I would have been raging homicidal. Fortunately my state got their scheduling software under control between my shots.

Good luck to your folks!

Yeah, the lady says to me, "just do the same thing you did to get this appointment".

I responded, "hit the lottery again? But this time, I can't just hit the lottery, I have to hit the Pfizer lottery, or it's no good"

So frustrating.

I can't wait to hear about all the people making appointments/getting the wrong damn vaccine. I'm assuming there are safeguards in place to prevent that, but probably not.

AZ switching to age based only now. Down to 55. I should qualify for the next group. Hopefully I can get one in April.

that might not be true. probably a lot of older people with health problems died from covid. that could cause deaths to go down this year. but a lot of other factors could increase death. there is a lot more poverty. that is a huge factor in life expectancy.

and mental health has suffered big time this past year. and people are drinking more, probably eating worse, and getting less exercise.

One of my pharmacy technicians is hospitalized with COVID now. We got Pfizer 1 in December and dose 2 in mid January. Kinda shaking me as i was hoping to go out in public this week.

That's concerning as you'd think they would be at peak immunity (assuming they did in fact get the vaccine). Did they do any testing to see if it was one of the newer strains?

I guess the caveat is that they are great vaccines but 90% is not 100% in terms of prevention. We need most of the country to get vaccinated so the virus itself stops spreading.

And you have to hit it in a specific time frame.

Personally, I'm fine with people risking themselves. I disagree with seatbelt laws, though I would be fine with laws that said "if you don't wear a seatbelt, all healthcare costs in case of a crash are on you. The public and/or your insurance company won't pay them."
That would be a seatbelt law, though. Not wearing a seatbelt is antisocial. Most obviously it inflicts unnecessary and distressing work on first responders and medical staff. And the law also needs to eliminate liability for anyone else involved in the accident if a narcissist makes a point of getting hurt. So the law should be that you need to wear a seatbelt.

Texas doing away with the mask mandate as well as any capacity restrictions. Good grief. My people really are dumb, aren't they? I guess the mask mandate thing really isn't a huge deal as it wasn't being enforced anywhere anyway. People who care will still wear them and idiots who don't weren't wearing them anyway, or if they were they were just protecting their chins.

Looks like cases are starting to tick upwards again, although not dramatically. Still a worrisome sign given that people are starting to be vaccinated (16% have gotten at least 1 dose and about 8% have gotten both, so still a long way to go). Uptick likely due to the new strains which will be dominant shortly in the US, if they aren't already. The UK had a rapid spike in cases as the new strain took hold. I work at a college in NY that had about 4 cases total among the students last year (small school of <2000 students). This semester already about a dozen. The new strains are much more easily transmitted.

For the most part the only thing that's ever made a difference - in red or blue states - is when the hospitals fill up. With a lot of old/unhealthy vaccinated by now, I doubt rising cases alone are going to move the needle for any state to lockdown again.

Getting the J&J vaccine Saturday morning! Now just have to make sure I eat enough this week so my BMI doesn't dip below Virginia's requirements.

Anything short of a new explosion of cases, and FL and TX will be all "Seee libtards, we shoulda never listened to y'all in the first place. Masks ain't no more useful than tits on a bull.."

Can't wait.

Really hoping the new variants reaching US are a nothingburger because I am defiantly getting very tired of looking ahead two weeks for a ****ing year now.

Could be ticking up due to lack of testing the last few weeks because of the winter storms. Positivity rate around here has been going down consistently.
