USA will not wear masks unless the mask protects the wearer rather than the population at large.

People will be hard pressed to “give up another summer”, when kids finish the school year inside classrooms and their grandparents all have been vaccinated.

Does anyone see a scenario where everything is opened up with recommendations that you don’t attend ball games, concerts, travel domestically, etc..unless you have received the Covid vaccine? Public demand...

I think this epidemic will change America as fundamentally as did the Spanish Flu of 1918.

Which is to say, it won't change a damned thing in the long run, and in 10 years it will be a "clues you're a 20s kid" reference. In 25 years it will be something only the olds talk about, and in 50 years it will be all but forgotten unless/until another pandemic reminds people about it.

Fauci said open-season vaccines by April, and I will believe him until proven different. I'll even give them until end of April, that would still be sweet.
Now we need local levels to suck less at distribution.

Is there a unique property of the specific microchips in these vaccines which can be scanned for? Would make allowing or denying entry to concerts/sports/airports etc much easier.

Data out of Israel is fantastic.

593k got both doses of the Pfizer vaccine. Only 544 infections, almost all mild/asymptomatic. Zero deaths.

Absent a vaccine-resistant mutation we are almost done with this. As long as enough people get vaccinated.

Interesting historical note that the Roaring 20s followed the 1918 pandemic, and was in many ways a response to it. I suspect we may be in for another Roaring 20s if the vaccines can really defeat this virus.

I got my second dose of Pfizer this week. What a load off! A few aches and pains the next day--nothing significant.

Godspeed to all the people still waiting for their vaccinations! I'm already chomping [yeah, I said it!] at the bit to get this show on the road.

My parents both got their first doses this week, my dad(70) on Wednesday, mum(68) this morning. No idea how they are allocating the two vaccines here in Scotland but my dad got AZ, my mum Pfizer. We're fair rattling through the population now, vaccinating just over 1% of the population every day. 22% or so done.

Results form Israel look really, really good too. Cautiously optimistic about a return to some semblance of normality this year.

Also, my dad had absolutely zero side effects, apparently he was out shovelling snow from their driveway the next day feeling absolutely fine. Will be interesting to see if my mum has any from the Pfizer one.

The state of NY opened up vax registration for people with comorbitities today. After a morning spent furiously refreshing websites, got appointments for both myself and my wife. Reddit nyc/coronavirus had really good tips.

Illinois going to phase 1C on Feb 25. 16 and over with comorbidities eligible. I'm in that list! Looking forward to getting my vaccine.

Side note: Ex-gf is a nurse on the COVID floor of a local hospital. She refused the vaccine. Tested positive for covid yesterday and is all whiny about being sick and missing work for 7-10 days or more. Am I terrible for not feeling bad for her?
