I'm really supposed to stay inside and away from people until I get my results...which did NOT come today.

I literally have been taking my trash out at 5 am when I first wake up so I don't run into anyone.

I haven't had the energy to really exercise since Saturday. Early on Friday I did low impact aerobic dance and some exercise bands, but since then I've had a fever and been exhausted and barely able to eat, so mostly I've been sleeping.

So you can live/be on campus if you have a lab class?

I believe it is they will allow certain students to come on campus for labs, and some grad students/etc will be able to live on campus, but don't hold me to that.

Well, it's about spies at the height of the Cold War! Did you expect a pro-Soviet agenda?

In other news, I do NOT have the Corona Plague! I probably have salmonella and don't appear in any danger of dying from it...

Sometimes it's positive to be negative.

Good luck with the salmonella--if you do indeed have it.

Düsseldorf put on a gig with I'm sure a wide collection of terrible acts such as Bryan Adams, Joris etc. for early September, pre-sale started today. 13,000 tickets for a 50,000 seater stadium.
I think usually it is fine for the city to greenlight events like this themselves but under these circumstances the federal health office of North-Rhine Westphalia is pissed as hell and so is Bavarian MP Markus Söder, even though it's none of his business basically, and numerous higher-ups across Germany.
Seems likely the authorities will cancel this.

I've been working remotely with a Swedish guy whose whole family caught covid back in May. He said everyone got sick but not enough to go to the hospital. He's recovered now but 2 months later he still can't run a 10k, something he used to do all the time before covid.

This guy looks about 35 and in really good shape, and he wasn't all that sick. Have any studies have really been done on what this does to people who need 100% of their heart and lung capacity for athletics or athletic hobbies? Sure most people go back to work and can do normal activities. But can they still compete at extremes?

My hobby/primary escape right now is hiking up mountains. I'd be screwed.

That would be devastating. I wish you well.

Obviously it's too early to know how many people have long-term damage, but there have been several professional athletes who have gotten it, recovered, and have resumed playing professional sports.

Come to think of it -- have there been any examples to the contrary? Any athletes who got COVID and it kept them out or below 100% for an extended period?

Cool thanks.

Can't believe I've never heard of a guy who won 19 games for the Red Sox last year, I suck as a sports fan.

Von Miller who had asthma caught it and said it was not a pleasant experience. He's recovered but curious to see how his season actually plays out.

I assume there have been a few soccer players who have gotten it? If so how are they doing? Baseball and football might only require short bursts of cardio-vascular output. But soccer is all running unless you're the goalie.

NBA is a ton of running too and so far I haven't heard of any of them not being able to play.

I'm also assuming that there's a decent correlation between prior physical health and ability to avoid complications later. I'm not in poor shape or anything, but these are world class athletes, so if X% of them are seeing post-covid complications I assume my chances are significantly >X%

suzzer,

This is from memory, so grain of salt. I think on ESPN last night the soccer guy said that two teams showed up to their bubble w/coronas, so they didn't get in the tournament. Other than that, their bubble has been effective.

NBA said no cases detected inside their bubble in over 5 weeks (I think--maybe it was since the start). Seems like their protocol is working really well.

On a side note, SportsCenter showed that one of the teams was being introduced by their kids on video, that was pretty cool.

I'm wondering about whether recovered soccer players seem to be having issues running up and down the pitch or whatever you call it for 90 minutes.
