People comparing outdoor activities to grocery deliveries--

I couldn't get groceries delivered even if I wanted to. Sure it's safer to get groceries delivered than going to the store, and money isn't the issue for me. But the local grocery stores mostly do not deliver on their own, and in weeks of constantly refreshing instacart and amazon whole foods and other online grocery delivery services, I've managed to see an available time slot only once, and it was for 6 days later.

I could order delivery from a restaurant for every meal I guess. Not really practical or affordable.

I go to the grocery store because I have to. I don't have to go to the beach or the park or whatever.

1000 of 2000 workers at High River meat processing plant test positive.
They said car pooling was a factor, but I guess the chill working environment didn't help either.

Also, am I the only one seeing the irony in the staff of a meat processing plant approaching herd immunity?

I was having this issue with instacart. Then I found out the drivers select their deliveries and aren't assigned to random ones. So I increased the tips, and a 6 day waiting period went down to about 3 days. I've been tipping large since then. You can always adjust the tip after the delivery before it is paid, but that's a scum bag move unless the driver messes up.

I had one driver bring me 10% cream instead of 1% milk (I guess dairy is dairy) how abt some cream with my cereal. The same driver brought me some sort of hair infusion product instead of shampoo. So that's the only time I adjusted the tip after delivery.

Anyway try increasing the tip by a good margin for quicker delivery

Adjusting a tip you already offered is a colossally dickbag move, make no mistake. Taking away a tip for anything short of slapping your wife's ass just makes you an inexcusable dirtbag and I almost want to ban you for the delivery guy.

Ya I changed the tip from $20 to $16 on a $79 order. There's a special place in hell for me make no mistake. That same guy picked up my very next delivery, so I don't think he was too salty.

Instacart fully refunds faulty delivered items without you having to return them which I didn't know at the time.

This is just so wrong lol. Tip: Pay someone to get groceries for you

That said I don't think it's really a big deal to shop yourself while being safe about it, but the shaming of safe sun dwellers is dumb and getting groceries is far riskier. Being in the sun is far more essential than being inside a grocery store.

Milk is a scam, heavy cream is where it's at

fyp

i mean none of us are really even paying people to get groceries for us! we are paying them to risk their lives for us. we can all get groceries ourselves. we shouldn't pretend like we are paying them to get groceries.

Obv? That's what they'd be getting paid for and it would be a lot safer than everyone shopping.

2 hypotheticals:

A) Nobody can go outside. Everybody has to get groceries inside a store for themselves.

B) Everybody can go outside. A desginated labor force does grocery deliveries.

I've got B

This is why we need to start issuing immunity certificates to people who have already had the virus. The economy can fully open up for them, and they can be given jobs that require consistent human contact, especially contact with the vulnerable population.

STOP EVERYTHING is not only a dumb strategy but it's also dumb when it has STOP EVERYTHING BUT EVERYONE GO INTO A PLACE WHERE EVERYONE ELSE GOES AND IT CAN BE EASILY SPREAD is added to it.

We need to stop the virus and stop the transmissions, not stop everything. Eating is essential, but grocery shopping and indoor dining aren't. Sun/outdoor activity is essential, baseball games and concerts aren't. etc.

We should be focused on limiting congregating and environments with easy transmission, not STOP EVERYTHING but ok ok you can do these things. Commerce sadly needs to be put on hold and hopefully governments can be good about that, but life being on hold won't be tolerated for much longer.

I'm not saying this to defend the HairSalonKarens, they're obv idiots. And aren't all these protests provoked by the same website and it's all an online media scam?

I still don’t understand why you have to go to the grocery store. Why not order pasta or any other pantry staples from Amazon and live off that for a few weeks?

Worst case scenario is one trip to the grocery store for bulk items. Should last for months.

ya, but once hospitals are stocked with ppe, what's the point? doesn't this thing require a full-measure taken to deal with?

Bighirt might tip a little MORE if the delivery guy slapped Mrs. Bighurt's ass!

It's just a really bad spot no matter what and I'm not arguing to open things up but to highlight what's truly essential/non-essential risky/non-risky and that it should be focused on more. Walking around outside in the sun away from people, even without a mask, ain't that big a deal.

Localism is a great fighter of the virus(and the effects of the virus) and USA is really bad at that so we are extra ****ed, especially with such a trash government

Fatalities in Settings with Robust or Anti-Body Testing

N Tested Infected Fatalities CFR
USS Theodore Roosevelt 4,845 All 940 1 0.11%
Gangelt (Germany)* 12,529 1,000 - - - - 0.37%
Iceland 364,134 46,377 1,792 10 0.56%
Charles de Gaulle (ship) 1,800 All 1,081 0 0%
New York State** 19.4mm 15,103 1,858 - - 0.8%

*For Gangelt, Case Fatal Rate was derived based on cluster study of 1,000 inhabitants.
**For New York state, the number of tested only refers to those tested as part of Phase III antibody testing conducted by the state; CFR was derived based on these results as announced by Governor Cuomo on 2 May.

Looks like about 0.5% on average. For people under 55, data has shown the fatality rate to be 5% of that 65 and over. So you could be looking at less than 0.025% for younger and middle-aged people.

PA has had 63 deaths the past 5 days due to Covid, up 0.6% on the day. Good signs.

Forget waiting period--where I live, you can't get a delivery slot period. Has nothing to do with tips. There are just not enough delivery guys to meet the demand.

PA and NY have 32.5m people or ~10% of the population and are already down to 4300 cases per day total, x 10 gets you 43,000 and that number will clearly be headed down by June 1st if other states follow the trend lines of PA/NYS.

Whomever made that projection did a poor job.

Regardless, whenever you re-open the virus will still be out there bouncing around from person to person. We've just delayed the impact by lockdowns not eliminated it which would take everyone having a vaccine in ~12 months or more and the economy would definitely fail before that and there'd be bankrupt hospitals, no gas, no meat, etc.
