Is there a reason why Asian people wear face masks anyways? I’ve never really seen anyone irl wearing one in normal times however I’ve seen on tv Asians wearing masks at say airports etc. is there a reason for this? I feel if someone was sick, it would make sense to wear a mask. However if some was just doing it to prevent getting sick, seems kinda derpy.

Doing a test on a zoo animal seems entirely defensible. Confirming human-to-cat transmission is pretty important as far as figuring out all the ways this can be spread and certainly a worthwhile use of one of the 1.7 million tests done so far in this country.

Just an update on the model the CDC continues to use...

For yesterday this is what the model projected:

So the model projected 69,000 hospital beds would be needed on April 5 in New York. 16,749 people were actually hospitalized on April 5 in NY.

Florida COVID-19 hospitalizations decreased today for the fourth day in a row and while it doesn't mean really anything without context positive tests today were the lowest all week at 800 (Florida is currently testing second most people/day on average than any state other than NY). There are currently almost 30,000 empty hospital beds in the state waiting for the influx of COVID patients the models had projected.
