I can't even figure out what they are. I see zinc capsules and zinc gummi bears and zinc tablets. And then all this elderberry stuff starts coming up. What are some examples of zinc lozenges? Amazon is useless.

Doesn't matter, looks like everyone is sold out just like hand sanitizer.
At Walmart and CVS anyway.

****ing pricks trying to make a profit off this ****. It is illegal to buy the stuff and resell it for profit isn't it? I hope they make it a point to send some of these ****s to jail. They're making it essentially impossible for the majority of the country to get a product they need. Quite possibly keeping something that could save lives from getting to the people that are most at risk. They're murderers! JK but for real, it is pretty messed up.

Skip to 1:18 in this video. COVID-19 is not that big of a deal. But by all means please go buy your $300 bottles of hand sanitizer and raid every store in the country for TP because CNN said to lose your minds.

Lol at listening to Dr Drew and his bullshit “more likely to die of influenza right now” line back when, sure 100x more people were getting the flu than corona here.

But more people will die of Corona than the flu in the next 3 months and it’s very possible we could lose 100k+ people in the US to Corona this year.

He’s a trump toady who will say it’s no big deal as long as Dear Leader says that and will change his tune as soon as Trump does.

We just passed 100k people infected worldwide. Cases are doubling outside China every 7 days or less. By the end of March we'll probably have over a million confirmed cases outside China. Deaths lag infections by about 4 weeks.

This is a big deal.

Yeah it's going to be utterly predictable when Trump's surrogates turn on a dime and start panicking and blaming immigrants and minorities somehow. One tweet is all it takes.

Trump had his followers in an absolute panic about ebola. Now he's doing the exact opposite - giving them a false sense of security.

I was so surprised to see a couple of hand sanitizers in my store I snap bought one of them. Apparently the hysteria hasn't reached my corner of the world yet.

It's amazing to me the degree to which the US citizen response to this seems to fall upon political lines. Every Trump supporter I know is downplaying the risk and mocking anyone who expresses concern or makes any changes to their daily life. I am not saying they think it's a hoax (some small percentage do)... they just think the media is hyping it up and it's "just the flu". It is odd, I feel like conservatives in general simply don't ever think a health crisis/natural disaster/etc. will get that bad, simply because they can point to others that turned out to be not as bad as feared.

I would wager that if they plotted the people who refuse to evacuate from a hurricane zone for example, because the last storm was "overhyped by the media", the numbers would skew very much republican.

I dunno - they're pretty easily panickable by stuff like Muslim terrorism or when an illegal immigrant commits a crime. And like I said - they were pretty freaked out about ebola and swine flu at the time. I just think it's all about whether their media bubble is stimulating their amygdala on a given subject or not.

Go to foxnews.com right now and coronavirus has one small section - the main article is a sad photo of a woman trying to talk to her quarantined husband of 60 years through a glass window.

From most recent WHO press briefing

Quote:
Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus: We see encouraging signs from the Republic of Korea. The number of newly reported cases appears to be declining, and the cases that are being reported are being identified primarily from known clusters. Although a few countries are reporting large numbers of cases, 115 countries have not reported any cases. 21 countries have reported only one case, and five countries that had reported cases have not reported new cases in the past 14 days.

The experience of these countries, and of China, continues to demonstrate that this is not a one-way street. This epidemic can be pushed back, but only with a collective coordinated and comprehensive approach that engages the entire machinery of government. We’re calling on every country to act with speed, scale, and clear-minded determination. Although we continue to see the majority of cases in handful of countries, we’re deeply concerned about the increasing number of countries reporting cases, especially those with weaker health systems.

However, this epidemic is a threat for every country, rich and poor, and as we have said before, even the high income countries should expect surprises. The solution is aggressive preparedness. We’re concerned that some countries have either not taken this seriously enough, or have decided there is nothing they can do. We’re concerned that in some countries the level of political commitment and the actions that demonstrate that commitment do not match the level of the threat we all face.

This is not a drill. This is not the time to give up. This is not a time for excuses. This is a time for pulling out all the stops. Countries have been planning for scenarios like this for decades. Now is the time to act on those plans. These are plans that start with leadership from the top. Coordinating every part of government, not just the health ministry. Security, diplomacy, finance, commerce, transport, trade, information, and more. The whole government should be involved. We need a whole government approach.

I told HR guy to update the sign in the bathroom to advise people to wash their hands from "it's cold and flu season" to "it's cold, flu, and coronavirus season". I think that's enough.

Also, "Coronavirus" would be an excellent death metal band name.

According to WHO studies from sending people to China to find out what’s happening, 20% of infected people need oxygen for 3-6 weeks (1/4 of those, or 5% of total) need an artificial respirator.

This is a very slow-motion car wreck in progress; we are watching from the sidewalk as it happens and see it’s about to happen while 40% of the country is looking the other way, oblivious. And the actual impact of the wreck won’t actually happen for another 4-6 weeks, that’s how very slow motion watching this is.

If even 10% need artificial respiration then we are gonna run out of oxygen tanks and hospital facilities and be in trouble.

This has been one of the significant concerns from the beginning and the reason so much attention and effort is being put forth to slow the spread. Which all the "lol 1% deaths and it's mostly olds" people don't seem to comprehend.

Lol at USA being #1 on that list. We are definitely below China but on the bright side I don't think China deserves to be anywhere close to that low. I'd rank the USA in the 30's or 40's. Our "can't take time off from work because we don't get sick pay" and "$5k deductible on my insurance? no way I'm going to the doctor" issues doom us to be squarely behind all of Western Europe, Japan, South Korea, and other 1st world countries.

Pretty sure US should drop way down in the 2020 rankings now that we know we can’t even test people for the disease

South Korea should move up

Seriously like is that graph from 1960 or something?

U.S. can't even test their own healthcare workers that clearly have it.
