In S.Korea and China they have "hotels" where they send you if you test positive - to keep from spreading it to everyone in your house.

The US may need to do something similar before we can open back up again. Household spread is the problem.

More people live on the Missouri side but like the state of Missouri is doing anything. All action has been taken at the county and local level. Governor Parson is a moran

This is not correct. Population spread is the problem. If your whole house gets it and stays quarantined, that is a success.

Also from what I've read the primary source of spread is within households and households who spend a lot of time interacting (IE - mother lives down the block). So it could take over a month of lag to spread that all around within the household clusters.

In S. Korea and China, anyone who tests positive is immediately isolated. In the US, unless they need hospital care, we a) don't test them and b) send them home to self-quarantine - which means probably infect everyone else in the house.

It's ****ed.
You are housing a visitor from China who is an expert?

Sure if you're going to lock down the house every time someone catches anything remotely resembling this thing (since we don't test).

We send people home to "self-isolate" who aren't sure what they have. You really think everyone else in the house stops going out at that point? Most people don't even realize you can spread it while asymptomatic. I feel fine. I stay away from my Mom. I'm going to my taxi shift because we need the money.

Pretty sure you're just trolling but Italy is hosting him. Thanks for contributing.

Chinese medical experts are dispensing advice to Italy in the hopes of helping them deal with the coronavirus that has ravaged Italy the past few weeks. The first bit of advice was that the European country was “not strict enough” in their handling of the health crisis. It has gotten so bad in Italy that one nurse said they have stopped counting the bodies.

Milan, Italy, was the site of a press conference held on Thursday where Chinese Red Cross Vice President Sun Shuopeng said that conditions in Northern Italy are “..similar to what we experienced two months ago in Wuhan, China, the epicenter of COVID-19."

He continued, "In the city of Wuhan after one month since the adoption of the lockdown policy, we see a decreasing trend from the peak of the disease. Here in Milan, the hardest-hit area by COVID-19, there isn't a very strict lockdown: public transportation is still working, and people are still moving around, you're still having dinners and parties in the hotels and you're not wearing masks. We need every citizen to be involved in the fight of COVID-19 and follow this policy.”

Then he added that Italians should stop all “economic activities and cut the mobility of people” imploring that everyone should just remain at home.

You know i just thought of something. If all these people that are working from home can do it why not just keep it like that after the coronavirus. Sure some might be unproductive but the impact it will have on traffic, the climate and long term potential space savings.

It's a great idea. Less office space needed too. I'm sure they can be productive as well.

Haha yeah. My friends who are working from home are losing their minds. They had no idea what reality was until they actually did it.

Everyone is so jelly of remote work until they actually do it. I always take the time to correct recruiters and companies that claim remote work is a benefit. "Will you work for less money because you are saving on gas?" Uh, no, I need more money to work remotely, thx.

I think it is a psychological thing that people want to see in physical form they are getting their moneys worth. "If I have to show up to the office you do too" sorta thing. I think that may be one aspect of it anyway.

I've got some stitches that are supposed to come out next week, and they've called me twice to set up an appointment to come in to get them taken out. I guess that's a good sign that we aren't too overrun with this yet in upstate NY even if the governor shut down the whole state this afternoon.

And I've been working from home for years now and love it. I bet I wear gym shorts/sweatpants 90% of my life these days. We're finding out who the fake introverts are now for sure.

I cut myself back open one time taking my own stitches out but I'd still do it again before I got anywhere near a hospital.

UK is basically now a socialist country.

Due to an international pandemic, capitalism isnt working. Quick get socialism on the phone.

Seems obvious in retrospect but I just learned that the reason liquor stores are considered essential services in all these states' lockdowns is because hospitals would be further overwhelmed with people suffering from alcohol withdrawal.

I don't mind doing it, but I also work in a field where we all ignore each other.

These people are in professions where they constantly have to be in contact with coworkers, ie, highly collaborative jobs. They can't function or get any work done, and I'm pretty sure this the rule, not the exception. Loss of collaboration shifts their work to a screeching halt, turning an 8 hour into a 12 hour day.

Of course, you have those who love standing around a water cooler or love to discuss a ****ing excel document for 45 minutes and find it the most comedic thing they seen since birth, but an office serve a lot of purpose.

VV get on the horn (also maybe use LinkedIN) with these 3 companies and I bet you could land a job. There has to be some more remote locations (Idaho, Wyoming, etc.) that are ready to get you in ASAP.

You couldn't pay me any $$$ to walk into a doctor's office or a hospital right now (especially not wearing a N95).

My state has gone to only take-out for restaurants. Went to pick up an order at a good sized Italian restaurant and ppl waiting in line were practicing social distancing (which some ppl are calling for a name change of physical distancing).

I don't know about you all, but there is something very odd about this graph. I don't trust the official numbers from China regarding Wuhan.

We might. More likely, we can just put the uninfected into hotels. In the meantime, the correct thing to do is stay at home if you feel ill, even if you would really like to know whether you have it.

They changed their definition of positive on the day with the big spike. I generally believe China’s numbers.

We have plenty of resources for that sort of thing. They apparently use different tools to take out stitches than to help people breathe.
