here's my notes on the entrants. generally they are nitpicks.
Malice: hard to tell with the shadows, but sear looks uneven on top piece with some bits more charred than i like. doneness looks great in second pic, but also looks like a bit of variation in doneness between two pics.
btc: sear looks great, but maybe just a tad darker than my ideal. would like a little rarer doneness for a filet. but very impressive for a pan cook.
hoagie: top pic looks like there is a lot of charring. second pic almost looks like a different steak. did you do something to the surface, or is it just difference in lighting and angle? doneness and texture look great.
miamicheats: sear a little spotty. interior looks great.
wookie: sear blacker than i like (this is a recurring theme with my comments, maybe because i don't eat a lot of grilled steaks.) interior looks a bit on the rare side.
bdv: pretty much an ideal sear. band on interior is a little wide, especially on left. i wonder what the texture was like since it almost looks like brisket.
my own: didn't get as thick or as dark of a crust as i would like. interior is what i wanted. this was oven reverse sear.
master: needs more sear and less doneness. not sure what method was used, but based on thickness of steak, i would probably have tried to cook in one go on medium high searing and cooking interior at same time.
nuggetz: i really like this. crust looks great and interior is a beautiful pink from edge to edge.
havent read the thread but had my best homemade steak the other night at my brothers, apparently he doesn't marinade like my idiot parents do and he uses tons of butter while in the cooking process.
I can get those prizes to winners as soon as Friday if we get these votes tallied. And I vote we settle any ties with submitted poetry and an unnecessarily complicated voting system.
Quality entries from everyone. I remain impressed.
I will if everyone is fine with it, but it'll be a very tough call.
Congratulations to Bigdaddy, that was a great entry. You can email me at sean.olson@agribeef.com and I'll get you sorted out on your prize.
Awesome—will do. It also occurs to me that I never voted. And it may be too late. As I see it, BTC’s was a great, great entry, as was Hoagie’s, but put them side by side and I narrowly choose Nuggetz. Each are phenomenal efforts.

Haven't posted in a little bit...standard filet from Fry's (Fred Myer) and Durango baked potato (rubbed in bacon grease and baked for an hour at 400 until crispy with butter cheese sour cream and bacon). Happy with results

Looks like this would be the tie-breaker? Nuggetz, email me! I'll send you a dry-aged American Wagyu Porterhouse. sean.olson@agribeef.com.

Next competition, no SV? Isn't that the culinary equivalent of botting?
anyone can get the same color and lack of grey band with oven reverse sear + thermometer. SV tenderizes better and gives it that soft, melty look since you can let it go for more time.
that said, a near perfect #teampan or #teamgrill steak is a much more impressive feat. can't deny that.
