Shouldn't be an issue. Milspec is generally designed to fit in guns like the one you're making and it almost always stays inside the gun and does its job, since disobedience isn't something you see parts doing often when they work for a weapon. As for the hammer, just be glad that it's so small - most hammers are bigger than guns, so if you got one that's smaller than the gun then it should be able to fit inside the gun and take care of general gun carpentry like if gun nails get pop out.

If you knew how to do it and had all the parts laid down on a table. How much time would it take to have it ready to fire in your opinion? Interesting project for sure.

Not a big deal that it's not a mil-spec hammer, just that if they went to the trouble of manufacturing their own design, that maybe the trigger pull would be better, or something. Who knows.

Mil-spec hammer and lockwork:

I am not a gun person, but I totally understand appeal of such project. You have to be really precise and careful. You have to concentrate. You can't do it like ikea furniture. I mean if you put the thing together and there are some parts left over, then it is unacceptable differently to the ikea ^^.

And thumbs-up for getting your daughter involved.

Seems like about an hour would be plenty of time.

Is your plan to buy a complete upper assembly or individually purchase the upper receiver, barrel / gas assembly and bolt? In either case but especially the latter one, take it to a gunsmith and have the headspacing double checked.

Plan was individual purchases but I haven't done any research into it yet. Thank you for the heads up; I will keep it in mind.

B/c killing people is the only things guns are used for.

You are so cool making this post. How about you stay the hell out of threads that don't interest you then you won't come across as a tard when you make idiotic posts.

His post appeared to be a little joke at the expense of the zealous gun types, like yourself. Your disproportionate response means that the joke was a success. I think metaname2 should let you share the credit!

The above isn't politarding (I've said nothing about my feelings on gun ownership) but I assume that really you would prefer not to continue along these lines at all. I won't say any more. Just couldn't help but point out the inadvertent hilarity in I_AM_EVIL's post.

It doesn't matter if the post was a joke or not. Those types of posts aren't necessary and only serve to stir the pot and ruin a potentially good thread.

I'm done with it. I'll just go on reading what will hopefully be an interesting thread.

Subscribed. And yes, meta's post was politarding, if even of the stir-the-pot and drop-a-golden-apple-of-discord type.

You'll need a barrel wrench, head space gauges and possibly a chamber reamer if you go the all individual component route. You'd be better off and probably money ahead to buy a matched upper / barrel / bolt assembly.

Nah, you made that happen when you overreacted. If you weren't so wound up, you would recognise it as a flippant, humorous reference to the gun ownership debate. His post doesn't even tell you what side of the debate he is on but you jumped the gun and assumed he is against. Maybe next time you should think before you pull the trigger.

Me too, now that we have been warned. But metaname2 posted before that warning, so I don't think it is right that you shot him down for it.

You can buy assembled ones already headspaced. Or, if you think you may end up with more than one and like the tinkering, buy the headspace gauges yourself and learn how to use them. It's a little bit of hassle because you have to disassemble the bolt carrier group, but again, more fun tinkering.

Yeah, this is the best way to go. I misspoke a bit earlier because you don't really headspace AR's, you just verify the headspace. Most AR's have chrome-lined chambers so you can't ream them, you just have to try a different barrel/extension/bolt combination until it all fits to spec. Too expensive for just an individual. Although a vendor might allow you to exchange a component if it doesn't fit once you try it.
