I wear birkenstocks everywhere. They are comfortable and F tying your shoes!

It's just an insider reference to the Tbab thread.

Hahaha I knew what this thread was going to be and wasn't disappointed. Suzzer, your gf is lying to you. The first step is acceptance.

Contrary to what some would say, sandals are extremely fashionable. Almost every great designer uses them on the runway. Issey Miyake for example:

Here's Ivwri, an awesome poster from StyleForum rocking gladiator sandals:

If you're willing to spend $140-$150, South Willard makes some very attractive sandals:

Close-toed sandals are a different story. They are almost always going to be atrocious, and for work I would just go for some sort of roomy slip on. The sandal/shoe hybrid is an ugly bastard. The exception is if you can find some Birkenstocks that fit the bill. If you're wearing Birks, there is nothing anyone can say about how you look. It's like a "get out of jail free" card. I'm not sure how that came to be.

Yeah, those aren't much better for every day use.

Professor Walter Lewin loves them too.

Sly,

Are you suggesting that what the men in those pictures are wearing looks good?

If no one says anything, its because its universally understood that wearing Birkenstocks makes you look dumb, so theres no point in pointing it out.

Banned4lyfe, Yeah I don't think there is such a thing as a sandal that's good for every day use. There is no "work sandal." Just pointing out that the genre itself can be fashionable. And those S Willard versions seem pretty awesome for anyone who wants to wear sandals.

Didace,

I'm not saying I would wear them myself, but I can appreciate that all of those are stylish looks.

Why don't you post some pics of what you think looks good, if you have such impeccable taste? I'm always looking to improve my sense of style from people who know what they're doing.

Actually, it's pretty good evidence. What else would you say makes something fashionable?

Alobar, if most great designers use something on the runway, it's probably fashionable. That doesn't mean that an monstrosity is fashionable because someone put it on the runway.

yeah thats a valid argument, but something being fashionable definitely does not mean it doesnt look stupid, and plus its really fun/easy to make fun of the fashion industry, so I couldnt help myself.

Runway fashion and things people actually wear in real life fashion are really different, though. Pieces get edited for the real world, and styling that works on the runway with the lighting and the movement and the music needs to be way toned down to not look insane in reality.

This really isn't a bad idea. People are always hating on things, but they never show what they think looks good. (BTW, I liked those pics, even if I don't think I could wear some of those clothes.)

Editing this out because I guess it's not cool to make those kinds of suggestions just because men care about fashion.

I'm a fruitcake, but unfortunately I'm fashiontarded. I might change that in the future if I ever find something more high fashion than cargo shorts.
