Car Question Car Question

So keep in mind I know absolutely nothing about cars. I got in my car today and noticed the air conditioning wouldn't turn on, no air came out at all. I was wondering if anyone ever had a similar situation and what the problem turned out to be. My car is really old and I've been looking for a new one while I save some cash, but I live in Arizona so would prefer to have air conditioning during the summer at least.

Sounds like your air conditioning is broken.

If no air is blowing at all, it may not be your a/c. Could be your fan blower motor, switch, fuse, or any number of other things that will be difficult to diagnose on an internet forum.

Then there's this problem of getting you to work on your car if you know absolutely nothing about cars. Do you even have any tools? Volt-Ohmmeter? See where this is going? May be best to ask around to see if any friends or family members can recommend a good mechanic.

I'm taking it to a mechanic tomorrow, was just posting to see if anyone had the same thing happen to them to maybe get an idea of what I was in for.

Every car repair is $500+ even if the problem was no fuel in the tank.

I'm surprised there isn't a sucessful chain that hasn't been made for Car shops considering how rife the industry is with fraud and abuse. I would think just by being on the up and up the reputation would spread as so few car places have good reputations.

this sounds way too complicated to ask a bunch of internet poker players. i have a very limited knowledge of cars and afaik this could be any number of things. take it to a mechanic imo.

I had this happen on my car. Turned out to be the fan; it's been a couple of years but from what I recall it was around $200 to fix.

Could be a few things.

Try setting the fan to max power - if it works on that setting but no others, there's a good chance the resistor pack failed. ($50 part or so, but labor is kind of annoying).

No idea what the problem is, but I do know that anything AC-related is expensive as hell to fix.
