I rent a place with 4 units. There is one 4 car garage with 2 2-car garage doors. Each of the doors can be opened from the inside, but only the 2 people on the left can open the left w/ their clicker, and only the 2 people on the right can open the right side with their clicker.

I come home tonight and my side of the garage door is open and my bike is gone. Neighbor says he got there at 830 (it's 11 when I get home) and thinks he shut the door since he "always" does.

What's my play? What's his play?

[FWIW We're both pissed at the landlord because he refuses to fix the side door which is almost always jammed and forces people to go in/out the actual garage door (even when retrieving something from their car) and also requires you to take your "clicker" inside the house and not leave it in the garage because you need it to enter to get into your car. The clicker has great range, and it's easy to set the garage door open from inside the house by sitting on the clicker if you forgot to take it out of your pocket. This is potentially interesting b/c if the side door worked you could come home, park, shut the garage door, watch it shut completely, and go out the side door. Instead, you come home, park, walk outside, shut the garage, and generally walk away while it's closing so you don't always see it come to a complete stop in the down position]

buy another bike -- leave the garage door open, but booby trap the bike so that if it is moved a large bucket will rain down brown recluses upon the hapless thief.

What can you do? You can't just flat out ask him to pay for it/accuse him because well **** happens, life goes on.
