grunch... Man, almost none of the beats in OP are anything special what so ever. Some are just downright terrible.

Gotta love Nas Is Like. Premo and Nas probably the GOAT rapper/producer combo.

Blockhead basically is the reason I started making music. So glad to see the love for him, Gramatik, and DOOM.

One of my fav old school beats off all time.

Souls of Mischeif - 93' Till Infinity

Great post but this was my favorite. Glad to see Sir Menelik get some mention. So underrated. He sounds so much like Kool Keith.

Both Blockhead and Aesop involved with this one.

For those that are fans of both Blockhead and Aesop Rock what do you think about Aesop's new album being produced solely by Aesop? I like Blockhead but I personally prefer Aesop beats myself.

premier is pretty good at times.
but around 2002 neraly everyone who could afford it made a premier remix. pretty much every beat had the same drum (or very close to the same) often the structure was very much the same. all in all premier beats were very boring.
a good amount of this hasnt changed till today. not saying he is a not a genius (work, just to get a rep, mass appeal), but most instrumentals lack a lot of complexity, innovation and what not.

if you take el-p on the other hand (my favorite producer) you ll see a lot ....
and than my brains stops. sorry, cant continue this post. but i hope you get what i wanted to say.

also i think fantastic damage is the most (and best) modern hip hop album productionwise.

I'll add something "interesting" here. Back in 1994, Coolio had a moderate "hit" with the song I Remember. For whatever reason, they decided to go with a slow, much worse version, that was on the single and album. I always thought the original had an incredible track, but it was only available as a b-side for the single (which I owned at the time). I'll post both for comparison. You say which version you like better.

A lot of people in this thread like old school styled beats, so you might like one of these.

this aint your standard "loop it and suk on it" stuff. the bells at 0.50 are killing it. whats pretty important: to make a good track you as an mcee have to match the beat pretty well. of course its a lot harder if you have a complex beat (as example shown above). jusjust doing it perfect.

this one i like for the pure brutality of it beatwise

I still remember listening to Fugees "Ready or Not" on my discman and being hypnotized by the beat.
