When I read the first few lines I was thinking recent model (but used) of some fake ass terrain vehicle which protects you from other drivers, can handle some abuse and has enough room for you to bring others with you/go for a weekend trip. I don't think there will be any car where rugby players packed into the backseat will be comfortable tbh so its good that doesn't matter. Im assuming no budget but nothing crazy either. Cheap used cars could still very well be an option for you as long as you realize you'll have to buy a new one once in a while. Sounds do able imo.
No idea why they hold value... they just do. You don't get the crazy moped thing here you do in other Asian countries, again not sure why.
I think the value thing is some combination of 1. The crazy high import tax and 2. Relatively immature market with rapidly growing demand for cars due to economic growth.
In the US and Europe, there's just more cars than people who want them, but here that's not the case.
Car wise. I'm looking at the lower end of compact / light SUVs.
Ford ecosport. Hyundai Tucson. Honda CRV. Mazda CX5. Toyota rav4.
All pretty soulless but practical
Ecosport is top runner for now just because it's 2/3rd the price of the others with the only downside being a much smaller engine
