Avatar(movie) idea from Sklansky?

The link between a man and his avatar is exactly the same as the last chapter of Sklansky's book Poker Gaming and Life, I wonder if there is any story behind.
Or maybe Sklansky actually gets this idea from elsewhere that is already very well known?
