I think our problem was assuming he wanted help rather than to just inform us of his sick poker-read-in-real-life skillz.

Came home today and noticed there is pretty clear evidence that an armadillo has been ****ing up my flower beds. I guess it could be an opossum because I saw one up around the house a month or so ago when we mutually scared the **** out of each other. However, many months ago I saw an armadillo in the side yard and a lot of the beds that are messed up is on the side of the house where I never go (and we shouldn't have a flower bed anyway but that's an issue with the landscapers). Though there is some evidence right out the front door which is what I initially noticed. So what's my play:

First thought is just to go out there at night, find it and shoot it. My dad did this several times when I was growing up, so it seems like the natural thing to do. However, my wife has issues with it because we are in the city limits, doing this would violate an ordinance and our next door neighbor is a Sheriff. I think I would still be in the clear shooting a pest animal that is causing property damage, plus I know the relevant people who would be prosecuting me and I don't think they would care. She wants to call some pest control place to set traps but I think they might catch our cats, the (maybe) innocent opposum or some other wildlife.

Possums (lol op OP) are dirty scummy animals....that do not dig up flower beds looking for grubs....

+1 for shoot the armadillo. Those things are ravenous. Feign ignorance wrt the gunshot as long as there are enough crazies in close enough proximity to cover you in a blanket of reasonable doubt.

you should wait up one night and find out who the culprit is and then just be like yah, that's just another living thing and I don't really have to kill it or anything...mannn.
