Come on Dids, I'm not yelling or hating, I'm saying she ruined my viewing of a great series. It was like she was reading Twas The Night Before Christmas ffs. Regardless of who asked who, you can't say her decision was 0% ego-driven.

Oprah is very good at many things, but narration of that series is not one of them. After doing that cursory search, I'm happy to see I'm far from alone on this view.

So if I understand this correctly, you can get a version of this with Attenborough narration?

it's funny to me that the ultimate hater, was defending hating.

I hate with a keen sense of accuracy, it's key to being an excellent hater. If you just cast out hate at random, without really good reasons (like wearing the wrong shoes or not having your bus fair out early) you're just a hack in the hater game. Gotta get your HER stats TIGHT.

27- what got me was this part

**** you Oprah, why the **** do you need to be doing voiceover work, but for your massive ego-tripping.
Hating her for sucking is fine.

Hating her for choosing to get paid what I can only assume wasn't a small sum and attributing it to ego seems off.

I think it would make more sense to hate the people who decided it would be a good idea to ruin a series by selecting an overly familiar and far too divisive narrator.

Oprah narrating that didn't bother me at all. As far as how the whole thing was dumbed down a little, I have 2 thoughts.

1) I assume she didn't write any of it. How would it sound being read any other way?

2) I wonder what percentage of the expected audience of the series is under 16 years old. I would guess 60%.

Oprah does have a knack for the patronizing tone, though. She's mastered it.

Dids, give me another reason besides satisfying her ego that Oprah would take this job?
Oprah was probably asked, and Oprah probably said 'I'm sure Oprah can do this magnificently, I'm Oprah ffs. Of course Oprah will do this.' and that is her satisfying her ego. I don't think it had much to do with money, but I'm sure the money was good.

Oprah is also the diva's diva of attention whores with many stories to back it up over the years, so I'm probably a little biased.

Oprah.

You should probably spell it O.p.r.ah so that she won't find this thread when she searches her name.

She likes money? (and don't give me anything about how she's already rich enough)

You don't get to just make an assumption like that and then make it my job to argue against it. I'll even grant you she probably has an ego- but to suggest that that's the obvious reason she'd take something like that is just silly.

I don't know why she took it, but it doesn't really matter why. Unless she walked into the studio and told them she was going to do it because she's ****ing Oprah and she runs ****- she's not the person to blame for her being part of the project.

Oprah's makeup artist was here a few weeks ago and he was telling Oprah stories.

I wouldn never use this hollow argument, which has been heard on local sports radio lately when referring to Tom Brady's contract and the fact that he's married to the supermodel who pulls 30+ a year.

For once 27o and I agree. Oprah ruined Life for me. Mute it and turn on some good instrumental music of your favorite flavor and it is much better.

Dids,

Your argument is invalid.

Anyone replacing Attenborough is an absolute ****ing travesty.

Better narrator for Life than Oprah, y'all.

Morgan Freeman, Patrick Stewart, there are a few other decent guys.

The guy who narrated The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford freaking killed it, he has the perfect "throat damage after years of smoking" gravelly enunciation:

Spoilers for the end of the movie, obv

He doesn't seem to have done anything else, though, which is weird.

My wife teaches 3rd grade here in FL. She got her class roster yesterday for the upcoming year, had 12 kids listed on it. But there was a note to the janitors to leave a 13th desk.

One of the kids has an imaginary friend that has to have a desk and supplies and stuff, or the kid can't function. Pretty crazy.

It would be crazier if it was 7th grade or something.

You cant replace Attenborough for Life or Planet Earth. He is not only the narrator but also the guy with all the knowledge and enthusiasm when it comes to those those shows. He's dedicated his life to these shows. Replacing him at all in this case is awful, although I do agree those guys are good narrators in other capacities.

The historian David McCullough is a very good narrator. He does a lot of the Ken Burns documentaries.

Based on the class size and the fact that they even considered doing this, much less executing, this has to be a private school, yeah?

I really LOVE how every time I post something about being vegan on a forum, I get trolled and called a 'pussy'

what makes me a pussy for being able to not have the urge to eat slaughtered animals?

You would think, but nope, Title 1 (low income) public. I thought she was joking when she told me.

Not eating meat literally makes you a pussy because of the lack of nutrients and stuff so your bones and muscles are smaller than real men.
