If I had kids, sending them to public schools would give me panic attacks. I don't think I could deal with public school administration. And I don't think some of these private schools would be any better.

It turns out maglite comes in purple so I can be fashionable and protectes.

They sell for the MLM scams and post close-up selfies everyday on Facebook for validation.

She really is doing it because of her own lack of confidence and her insecurities. Him telling her "we don't do that in this household" or whatever does nothing to fix the real problem. He should pay attention to what she doesn't like about herself and try to build her up and explain to her what her actions mean and not that her actions are bad.

Howard,

Take note. Apparently you are an awful parent and could benefit from the advice given by the 2016/2017 mom of the year.

It's still an issue with his daughters self confidence, he should address the root cause instead of the actions.

My daughter was ten at the time and she and her friends teased one another all the time. My daughter got as good as she gave, and never took insult at any of it -- nor was insult intended. And my daughter was teasing shorty mcflatnose in a friendly way, but the girl took insult at it. As for the hostile note, you're absolutely correct, and we addressed the motivation for that in some detail. Nobody knows what lurks in the hearts of others, but I'm confident even so that was a one-off situation.

She is now fifteen and her confidence seems fine. She's healthy, social, organized, hardworking, drama-free and academically successful. I have very well-defined views on parenting, one of which is that the outcomes are largely determined by luck.

Howard,

Somehow I missed this earlier:

Question re: the flat-nosed girl. Is she Thai?
04-21-2017 , 03:11 PM
That's a direct quote. The girl in question is Korean.

I distinctly remember calling a Chinese-American kid in my second grade class "flat-face" once when I got mad at him for some reason.

We ended up becoming pretty good friends in middle/high school.

Thanks Dr. MLY. You fly away now, little starling...

My kids both take a fair amount of teasing, all of it good-natured as far as I can tell. They're half-Asian, and there is definitely some race banter back and forth among their friends. It's not intended to be insulting, and I expect mine retaliate good-naturedly from time to time. One friend was over for dinner recently and started to explain what poke was. Derision ensued, but it was all in good fun.

Deebz,

Kiddie sized aluminum bat is the correct answer. Perfect for indoors and one handed use. Also, you probably swing like a girl.

HT,

In I think fourth or fifth grade a kid on the bus used to tease me sometimes with stupid stuff like that and I was always just like whatever idiot stfu, then one day he got emboldened and called me sand ******. I walked back to his seat and punched him square in the face. He was just stunned and froze, then someone else jumped between us. We got sent to the principals office the next day, were both given detention for a couple of days, and that was that. Didn't become friends with the guy, but never got teased by anyone on the bus again!

I wonder how that whole situation would be handled in today's environment.

I'll have you know I've been averaging about 100 yds with my 7 iron.

More like 100 yards of fabric.

Mean!

It is hard to construe sand ****** as in any way playful. It today's schools, that might well get a suspension.

Before this day ends, I promise myself I will call somebody 'shorty mcflatnose'. It's too good.
