Anyone here drive for Uber? Anyone here drive for Uber?

Used uber for the first time this last weekend while travelling in chicago. Rode in a regular car the first night and it was a horrible experience. Used uber twice the second day and the experience was so so much better.

Drivers where extremely friendly, very nice cars and where actually interested in having a conversation during the ride. Will definetely be using again

I dont know how it works on your side of the pond but over here most regulation is in place to protect the customer and the employee. If you're able to lobby/argument your way through legislation then thats great and in fact how the real world works. If you're somehow incompetent at doing that then you're probably doomed as a company to begin with.

Allowing the cities to monopolize cab service with a more capable company is right there to do better is silly.
This is a silly simplification. They are not offering the same service more cheaply because they found a 'new way'. They are doing so because they think they can circumvent pretty much every existing legislation on cab services.

Same here. At least that's what they tell us.

If it was truly a horrible experience, one star them. I believe if they drop below a 4.6 avg rating they no longer give rides for uber.

The govt is blatently dicking them over and that's what you can't seem to grasp. Why should they pass up driving a cab if that's the best job they can get because of what some scumbag bought and paid for politicians say?
Here's why it's not horse**** and doesn't hurt customers: as a customer, I can have confidence that I won't be discriminated against based on where I live/my destination as long as cab drivers follow the regulations. If not, then I have to wonder how I'm getting home. It also doesn't hurt cabbies because they know going into driving a cab that they have to take customers to their desired destinations. I don't think that anyone would be silly enough to enter into a profession--other than criminal, of course--thinking that they're going to break the law as a matter of course.

Question: if taxi drivers themselves (rather than the capitalist investors in medallions) benefitted from the extraordinary profits created by eliminating competition, would anyone on this board have a problem reporting those drivers for rule violations? For example, by violating the rule saying the cab has no discretion to refuse a pickup based on destination?
Indeed I am pro-Uber and I use it frequently. I will use cabs if Uber is on a big surge or if there's some ungodly long wait for a car and I see cabs available to hail streetside.

That makes sense. It's almost like you knew that the job would entail taking people where they wanted to go.

Just read that Uber lost about $500 million last year on just over $500 million in revenue, so they were spending about $2 for every $1 they took in. Probablly looking up right now, as they're taking more money out of fares than they used to and their bonuses and guarantees are a lot lower than they used to be.

Uber stops offering UberPOP in France for now after violence and the arrest of two of their executives. Cars are being smashed and sometimes passenger and drivers are even held hostage for short periods of time.

Friend of mine is in a growing US city that currently does not have Uber, and wants to keep tabs on when they're coming to his town. Advice?

(I know you can't read a sentence that vague and NOT ask, "What city?", so it's Rochester, MN. Home of the Mayo Clinic. Population 100k, and about 1/3rd of those folks work at the Mayo. Another massive "destination medical center" is planned now, and folks are thinking the population might double if that happens.)

Austin Geidt, Head of Global Expansion @Uber

Hey there- So I look at several different metrics in determining which US cities we head to. We keeps what cities we're coming to pretty under wrap until we soft launch there (or if it's on our job page). Though if it's a major city, we'll likely make it there.*

And the minimum fare is now $4. So after Uber takes $1 off the top + 20% of what's left, the driver makes $2.40.

They have this delightful thing now where they ban your account if you don't drive for 30 ****ing days. Yea, "work whenever you want."

I'm gonna post a hilarious email exchange I've had recently trying to get my account reactivated.

Wait what? That's not what I was asking for. I need my driver account to be activated again. I was deactivated for no reason yet again and I need to be reactivated. There is absolutely no reason why I should be not activated. The issue was never about my email address, I am unable to log into the driver app because it needs activation.

Hi ______,

Thanks for writing in!

Zlatko here from the community support team stepping in for Rommel, happy to help.

I'm sorry your issue was not addressed in the previous correspondence so let's go ahead and start the process for activating your account again. Because it has been almost 1 year since we last ran your background check we will need to do that again.

You can do this by logging into your Partner Dashboard at partners.uber.com. From the menu, select ‘Background Check’ and complete the consent form. The background check will take at least 7-10 days to process, and we’ll let you know as soon as we hear back.

Background checks are an important part of our screening and quality process and you can learn more about that here:
Uber Background Checks.

Let me know if you have any further questions, we're here to support our partners!

Thank you for your assistance, which "menu" are you talking about? Nowhere on the website do I see a menu let alone an option to fill out a background check consent form. I'm more than happy to consent to a background check again, can you please tell me where that would be found in more detail?

Thanks, my name

It's just such a ****ing **** show. You wouldn't believe what I had to do just to find their ****ing support email, it's listed NOWHERE on the site and I had to ask on a ****ing uber driver forum. Not only that, you need to find the specific email for your region. The "Help" menu on the website is terrible. The ENTIRE website is designed to be unhelpful it seems. The entire experience for drivers is just awful, the feeling on the partner forums is that they purposely **** with drivers in regions where there's an overflow.

My feeling is that uber being the ****ty company they are, outsourced their customer service to some third world ****hole for pennies on the dollar and I feel bad because I'm pretty sure Rommel ended up in a ditch somewhere in eastern europe.
