I rooted my Incredible last night. Promptly installed the wireless tether, and that led flashlight that I've been wanting to an unreasonable degree for a couple of months now.

What's the deal with the wireless tether on the 2.2 release? I've heard that it was supposed to be included in the package, but that Verizon wants to strip it so they can charge for it.

On the one hand, I can believe this.

3g hotspot is wireless tether from verizon that you get to pay extra for. The 2.2 rom I'm using has it in the settings but you can still use the free wireless tether app.

I use it on droid x. May be a little less playable on a smaller screen and it takes getting used to but I like it. The controls are shown on screen, somewhat transparent.

For those with an evo:

Quote:
The method sounds ridiculous but many people have confirmed that it has nearly doubled their battery life, so it's clearly worth a shot. Instructions below.

This is a one-time only procedure.

Turn the EVO on and charge it for 8 hours.
Unplug it and turn it off.
Plug it back in and charge for 1 hour.
Unplug it and turn it on.
Wait 2 minutes and turn it off.
Plug it back in and charge for 1 hour.
Here's a variation of these instructions:

Turn the EVO on and charge it until the LED indicator turns green.
Unplug it and turn it off.
Plug it back in and charge until the LED indicator turns green.
Unplug it and turn it on.
Once powered on completely, turn it off again.
Plug it back in and charge until the LED turns green.
Unplug it, turn it on, and use it normally.

Most droid x's seem to be shipping a week earlier than the date they give you. Mine did and several people I know irl abd on other forums got theirs a week early

There is a commercial RDP/Remote Desktop app, but it's $20. Haven't tried it.

I'll probably check this out at some point though. VNC client for android

Click the application you want to move and under the "Storage" section there's an option "Move to SD Card". If it's grayed out the app doesn't support it.

Developers have to explicitly set apps to be allowed to run off the SD card. As 2.2 gets rolled out this will be much more common. Note that for some reason widgets run notoriously bad from the SD card, so it's not recommended to move them (even if you can).

Here's a cool app that will help you find which apps can be moved to the SD card, which run okay off it, etc.

I found it pretty handy when I first updated to 2.2
Or, if you are rooted -- Titanium backup can force apps to SD even if they don't 'allow' it.

That's awesome I knew about Titanium but didn't know it could do that.

PDANet has worked well for me. I actually played Starcraft 2 over it with no problems (until someone called, lol) the other day.

My droid starting making some annoying noises yesterday. It makes a lout noise every time the orientation changes, or a url is clicked etc. even if the volume is set to zero. I have to go to settings and set specifically the media volume to zero to stop these sounds, but then I am unable to listen to music, help appreciated thanks.

Samsung Galaxy S is quite good. The jury's out on if it's the best or not depending on how the Froyo release goes. If it gets released soon and is hacked with some awesome custom builds, then it will be the best imo.

Droid has a ton more apps for almost everything. Info, games, productivity, etc. Most droids have a touch screen, where most blackberries do not. Anything multimedia and the droid wins, hands down.

Blackberry is great if you are hardcore about syncing your PC to your phone. If you are a heavy user of Outlook and want to keep your notes and tasks, you will need a Blackberry over a droid. Blackberry seems to have better battery life (much better).

I just bought the HTC Desire after a bit of research, Froyo isn't out for the carrier I chose yet, hopefully won't be long. Pretty excited!
