Anyone getting a DROID / ANDROID? Anyone getting a DROID / ANDROID?

Slightly better hardware, will be supported longer.

tbh I'd probably just get the evo though, assuming you like sprint

Can't wait to read thru this thread to see what apps and settings to use once I get my evo. yay good times for this tech nerd!!!!!

Droid X comes stock with Swype if you don't want to mess around with getting the beta on the Evo.

Got my galaxy s last week. I'm hooked.

Please tell me some cool apps to download.

Gmote is awesome it turns your phone into a wifi mouse for your pc.

My phone came with Asphlat5 which is a pretty good racing game, it's like a mobile version of NFS with a career mode with different tracks/cars etc.

Absolutely not. The Evo is the better phone. The closest competitor will be the Epic 4g on Sprint which will be out next week.

Purely curious but what makes the Evo better than the Droid X besides island creation technology?
08-07-2010 , 05:15 AM
they are two very different phones... saying one is "much better" than the other is a bit of a stretch. comes down to a lot of personal preference.

Ive had the droid since December, just stopped by the Verizon store to mess with the Droid X. I may get it, but itll probably be smarter to wait for Verizon to come out with their LTE phones in a little over a year.

I very comfortable with the Android platform so really I was just checking out the aesthetics, my lord this thing is big, maybe too big. My Droid is already kinda big in my pocket, anyone have this complaint with their Droid X?
08-07-2010 , 11:39 AM
The Droid X is big, but if you put your phone in its own pocket (I started doing this when I got my Incredible so it didn't get destroyed by my keys and whatnot) you shouldn't have any issues with it not fitting in your pocket or being too clunky. The extra real estate makes browsing the internet and forums like this one especially much nicer.

Anyone else getting force close errors in gmail? I started getting them today, and from android forums it appears to be an issue occurring across devices.

sooo uhhh without listing specs side by side and besides the kickstand y which one is better at what?

Evo has a front facing camera. X's screen is bigger and comes with a larger SD card I believe. Evo is on 4G (in selected areas).

I've been using my X exclusively for a week over my iPod touch. I went back and used an app on my iPod touch and the screen seemed way too small in comparison.

I am tired of all of this Evo talk. HTC makes crappy phones, period. Ill take the call quality of the X/Droid anyday. And what makes the EVO so much better?
08-08-2010 , 09:02 AM
Stop with the pissing contest. You sound like iphone fanboys arguing. They are both good phones that'll prepare you for the next generation of android phones that'll have dual gig processors with 12meg cameras capable of playing call of duty through bluetooth joystick.

True that, just working in the industry I think htc is awful.

I'm really tempted to root my phone.

However, most guides that I see from googling seem to be "how to root/flash" things, which from looking at Easy Root app seems unnecessary now. Anyone have a link that explains roms, kernals, overclocking, etc. in a way that a very dumb person could understand?

Also, do I necessarily completely lose all my apps, notes, and whatever?

Thanks in advance, guys.

Got an email saying my order is shipping a week early for my X. Woohoo!

Rooting is basically just giving you access to the root folder and allowing you to use all of the functionality of your phone, article here:

http://www.droidforums.net/forum/dro...op-asking.html

Roms are basically just skins that you download that give your phone a theme. There are a lot of them here (as well as kernels):

http://www.droidforums.net/forum/and...rce-leaks.html

This is a little advanced but it talks about overclocking and the advantages/disadvantages of it.

You WILL lose your apps, but you can back them up by downloading Astro File Manager from the Market. With that program, click the menu button, then go to Tools. There is "Application Manager/Backup" in the Tools menu. It will take a bit to load your packages, select all of the ones you want to save and click the Backup button.

After you root your phone and install your mod, you can re-download Astro from the market and your programs will be saved in a backup file. To restore them, go to the same menu, and instead of selecting them all and clicking Backup, you'll see at the top right there is a tab for Backed Up Apps. There is (or used to be) a bug where you couldn't select all of the apps and have them Install, it wouldn't recognize that. What I had to do was manually click on the check-box on each of them and install them individually. Time-consuming, but you won't lose your apps.

You will NOT lose the music you have on your sdcard, but you will lose pictures and video, so transfer pics/vids to photobucket or somewhere else that you can keep them after you root. You will also lose all the program settings on your phone, and it kinda sucks setting up all of your options in each program again every time you root, but it gets faster and faster each time you do it.

Hope this helps.

I rooted the Incredible with the video link I posted and it went almost exactly like video. Super easy to do. Here's more in depth for incredible. http://www.jonamerica.com/technology...id-incredible/

it seems like there have been a fair amount of problems with the easy root app you can buy, so beware. Just follow a regular root tutorial and its not hard at all. It will also help you understand the process which will make flashing custom ROM's/themes/kernals easier on you.

the "SNESoid" emulator on droid x works like a charm

I don't think there is a point yet. The only thing you can do is delete stock apps. You can't use a custom ROM or overclock.

'tard question: what is the difference between mobile hotspot and tethering? Former is multiple computers? Why not just bluetooth tether?

Also, says VZW:
DROID 2 by Motorola will be available at www.verizonwireless.com on August 11, and it will be in Verizon Wireless Communications Stores beginning August 12 for $199.99 after a $100 mail-in rebate with a new two-year customer agreement.
