I purchased a set of bongos today, (Meinl HB100NT).

I want to get really good and Im going to practise on the weekends as well as around 30 minutes each day at lunch time during the week, im lucky to live close to home.

I have the bongo book by trevor salloum and you tube to inspire me.

I pretty much like all chops and beats, samba is cool, I'd like to basicly become a master at theraputic, hypnotic, & and just sick chops.

Im starting form stratch so I am an open canvas, if you have some links, hit me up.

I want to do the proper basics so im soild for the advanced stuff.

If any one plays any other instrument feel free to vent about it.

i have been playing the drums for years and used to play with a band. within the past year or so we switched to a more acoustic style so i went out and bought a djembe and bongos. i know rhythms and beats and stuff so i can basically play them but i'd also like to learn more "bongo theory" or whatever.

I have a hard time taking seriously a white person with bongos. I'm not saying that to be obnoxious, but from personal biased experience from college.

I will second that but specifically because of Matthew McConaughey.

I saw Giovanni Hidalgo about two years ago in NYC. The man is simply amazing.

i play drums in a ramonescore pop punk band and have an avid fetish for playing garbage cans, mattresses floors, and buckets using sticks mind you whenever anyone busts out an acoustic guitar this is usually how my band plays old country and blues numbers when we are just goofing off at the house after hours

When I am a genius with unlimited resources, I will construct and launch a satellite that simply searches North America for drum circles and then vaporizes them, leaving only the stench of burned patchouli. GTFO Hippies.

Spoiler:
yes, I realize that's not what's really happening ITT, but it's what we all expected when we opened it.

"Drumming has a number of benefits," said Simon.

"It can energise or relax. It can foster a sense of playfulness or release anger and tension. It can also help in the conquering of social isolation and the building of positive relationships."
Maybe you should reconsider your stance on this issue Dids.

I find posting about violence against hippies releases plenty of anger and tension for me!

Also without looking, that study seems kinda obvious. Really- being creative with people helps you have fun and meet people. SHOCKING.

Shouldn't you be busy not washing your pancho or something?

I have been playing drums for quite a while. I recently bought a cajon, and surprisingly, youtube had a lot of decent content on playing the cajon, etc. Check that out, maybe they'll have some good info for you. Your mileage my vary.

i hope i never see him playing bongos, that would put me on serious life tilt afaik

i have a set real nice set of Meinl bongos, and a 15" (I think?) Remo djembe. i used to play a lot with friends, but once they all left for school i stopped playing. its been a few years since ive played, but this thread has kinda gotten me interested again.

by the sounds of that video Buddha linked, i need to tune my bongos really bad. can i just use a standard guitar tuner for this, or is it all by ear/ or personal preference?

I came into this thread for the sole purpose of posting this, but you beat me to it. Great movie. It will definitely give you even more motivation to learn how to play the bongo. Or is it bongos?
