Favorite comic? Least favorite? If not the same, fave/least fave that we'd have heard of?

Love Patrice O'Neal, Kinison, Bernie Mac, Joey Diaz and one of the most unknown, Charlie Burnett.

Al of those comics were just very REAL

My questions about Nazareth/Ethiopian food was because it looked like your show was at the comedy club near Bloor and Dovercourt, which I've never been to, but have passed by many times on my way to get dinner.

BTW, El D asked about Elon Altman b/c he's 2p2er Dr. Spaceman

What kinda monies does your average decent local comic make? How much monies when you start to tour and headline small clubs?

Larue,

Would love to hear a brief “a day/month/year in the life of” for you in terms of your schedule, what you end up spending your time on, day-to-day schedule, etc.

Documentaries I’ve seen on aspiring comics make it seem like a really tough grind.

Your bits were funny and you handled that heckler like a pro.

How did you first get started? Did you write a bunch of material to try out or did you just start going to open mics and ate **** until you figured it out?

I honestly don't care about the money right now, I'm trying to get good. With that being said, there is not a lot of money in the big cities unless you are established, I have a Dirty show once a month that is sponsored by Fleshlight that basically pays my rent, if I middle for a club I get $75 bucks for 20 minute set, I have started headlining for Yuk Yuks but my rate is about $135/show. I still do about 15-20 sets a week, a lot of them are 5 minute spots at open mics. On the weekends I do a lot more club/booked shows.

I would honestly do this for free until I get very good then I would be more open to putting a value on my act. My goal is to build a following, I read an amazing article called 1,000 true fans by Kevin Kelly and I really believe in it.

Avg day

Wake up at 10 am, work p/t for 2 hours from home, walk dogs, gym, come home nap (rub one out), write then head out to comedy to do 2-4 shows

Sundays ill still play online poker unless I have a club gig booked.

I like to travel to NYC every few months to do the gigs there, also to stay fresh. I was in Vegas 2 weeks ago just to play poker and do their Dirty show which I have to say, is one of the best shows in the US. Dirty at 1230 @ Southpoint Casino.

I also was filming a doc, I am having problems getting it edited down, but would love to release that ASAP

I started because a good buddy of mine is a comedian and told me I'd be good at it because I'm a lunatic.

I wrote first and did prepared material but after a few weeks I stopped writing and went on stage every night and just riffed. I would eat **** in the most epic ways but when I caught lightening in a bottle, it was magical. Eventually started writing and that helped a ton.

Now I write everyday but I try to take risks on stage and it leads to eating a lot of ****.

Pretty sure the word "complications" doesn't need to be in this sentence.

How long were your sets when you first starting going on stage? And what would be the best advice to give someone that wanted to take that step into stand up?

In nyc and LA I think its 3 or 5 min sets, Toronto it's usually 5 minute sets.

If you want advice, just do it, don't wait, just find an open mic and get on stage

How often do you think you've come up with original material, only to later discover that someone else has done it before? Seems like that has to happen all the time

Have you seen the Seinfeld documentary "Comedian" (it's on Canadian netflix right now if you haven't)? Thoughts on it?

I try to talk mostly about my experiences so it will usually be original, I have had a couple of situations when I thought of something that I later heard but as long as I keep an honest and original perspective on a topic, I think it's fine to talk about anything (as long as the jokes are not the same)

I watched it when I first started doing stand up about 4.5 years ago, I found it very interesting, at the time I was only an open micer. Everyone is on a different path, I have no idea what it's like to be Seinfeld or even Orny Adams who is an absolute beast of a Comedian.

The thing that i can relate to is the struggle with developing new 'GOOD' material, dealing with industry/business of comedy. I just want to be on stage and do sets but there is an importance to building fans and marketing yourself.
I headlined Toronto Yuk Yuks in January, felt so amazing about what I was doing, then a week later saw Louis CK in an arena with 12 thousand people and his material was so high level, so funny and it was a reality check, I realized I have a long way to go and you can't cheat the system, you have to pay your dues and work your ass off to get great, which is fine by me.
