Gonna get the Wii (the "sports bundle" I guess because it's less expensive than the console alone, presumably because they know you'll buy accessories), an additional controller/nunchuck, the drawing tablet thing for kids my daughter has seen advertised, and a couple of games. Suddenly, this $200 system is $500. Robbery!
I am going to chime in one more time and say you should look at Kinect. It isn't getting any love itt partly because it hasn't been out for very long. I really think the lack of controller needed is a huge + for it, especially for little kids. The lack of games is the only issue at the moment, but the game it comes with has 4 or 5 mini games with it, and new stuff is bound to follow.

And cost wise, assuming this is strictly for the kids and you don't need a big HD to store stuff and play COD or whatever online, you are at $300 all in. $400 if you get the big version.

this is not a brag

conversely, i've banned nintendo ds's because every time i see a kid using one it is being used in lieu of real human interaction or contact. it's like a babysitter for bad parents.
Why do you have that many Wii games? The kids like playing that many bad games?

And banning DS's I think is really the wrong way to go. I understand your sentiment and agree with it 100%, but the DS, as far as quality of games go, is infinitely superior to the Wii. Granted, I'm the guy with no kids...but why can't you simply restrict the use of a DS to appropriate times? Only a bad parent would use them as a baby sitter, doesn't mean you have to use a DS as a babysitter.

As a point of comparison, I'm a life-long Nintendo loyalist. I have a DS and 43 games for it. I have a PS3 and 24 games for it (not counting downloads). I have had a Wii for a year and am anxiously looking forward to buying my second game for it this month when I get Kirby's Epic Yarn. The Wii's game selection is just unexciting to me.

I think I've said this before here, but I hate motion gaming, so that doesn't help. When I play games, I want to chill and play games. When I want a workout, I have a gym membership. I don't try and merge the two. (So yes, eff the Kinect and eff the Playstation Move, too.)

Apparently my dear sweet Beatrice does really not enjoy being picked up at the same time as her brother and put into the bedroom so that I can empty the bagless vacuum without them trying to eat the dust.

(I think the real reason is that they hate the vac and were all worked up and this was the exact wrong time to pick her up, she's just a dumb cat and was defending herself against a threat, so I can't really blame her)

Doesn't really hurt, but I'll have to explain this all damn week.

Luckily she's all snuggly again.

Alternate story.

Somebody tried to hijack my plane and I took them down, you should see the other guy.

Dids, that is true love, imo. Accepting that damage rather than letting go at once must mean something. I think you really ought to get some medicated ointment as soon as possible.

The Kirby platform games range from just good to downright spectacular. Kirby Canvas Curse on the DS is one of my all time favorite games. They aren't necessarily long, they're just really really fun.

I've ointmented. Also I let go, that happened AS I let go.

Do you like, hate Zelda or something? Or Mario? Between Super Mario Galaxy and Zelda: Twilight Princess you have 3 mega-awesome games that make the wii worth purchasing by themselves! life-long Nintendo loyalist my ass.

There aren't that many games for the Wii that get me, a 29-year-old male, excited, but if I were getting a system for a young kid I probably wouldn't even consider anything else.

Super ninja-cat getting even for not getting her treat on time earlier?

So did she eat your thumb, or did you hack it off during the struggle like the rock climbing guy?
11-29-2010 , 01:07 AM
Yeah, I noticed that. I do in fact have a left thumb.

When one sees 'EDF,' should one think, simply, 'Consumer Forum?'
