Maybe try for the OG Pixel in the sub-400 range? I'm still loving mine and it's the first time I haven't yearned for an upgrade in many years.

Same.

Project Fi's "automatic connection to open hotspots" is the same as the Google Pixel feature (wifi assistant), correct?

I've been underwhelmed by it in the year+ I've had my Pixel - seems like open hotspots are increasingly rare, and almost all now require you to click through a splash page or enter a password. Frustrating.

bware,

I've installed a helpful app called WiFi Web Login which navigates the splash pages and passwords automatically in the background when you connect to such a hotspot.

I switched to a lg v20 earlier this year and am soooo pissed I let sprint sell me a HTC m9 for 760 bucks on contract 2 years ago

Got the v20 new for about 220 on eBay.And its just as good if not better.
I just got a "New sealed box " v20 on eBay>
It arrived with the battery installed, no factory screen protector , the charging cord isnt the normal flat style that comes with a new V20 and the google drive bonus 100GB offer present on all new V20 "has already been redeemed">
which seller did you buy from?
mine was lotus.online
They have already conceded to sending me a new battery( as this one does last but 6 hours) and a small refund>
and explained that there supplier ships them with the battery preinstalled...
that was prior to to me discovery the google 100GB offer was "declined"...i just sent them another message asking for $100 refund>
If they dont i will return the phone.

I got mine off Amazon and the seller was edge cellular.

Wasn't labeled brand new, had a standard quick lg charger that wasn't stock, but still looked good and has done well,so I bought another v20 for my kid about the same time and he likes it too.

It doesn't come with a screen protector, but they're cheap and we buy phone cases off eBay for cheap as well.

Had no idea about the free cloud storage, but I always use a memory card, just habit, and a little leery of having stuff on the web.

If sprint actually has them discounted to around 250 new in the next month,(right now it's 270+activation)
I'm considering getting two more just to have as spares for the next few years, because having a earphone jack with great DACs and the ability to change batteries is probably not going to be on very many phones in the future.

I agree about online storage but i knew the offer was thare and when i opened google drive form the icon...sure enough you are eligible for the 100gb free for two years: I clicked claim now and ding: Ineligible this offer has already been claimed.
If yours wasnt new then im assuming the previous owner likely used it.
I paid 247 for this "New" unit.(Tmo branded)
Im on Tmobile IF i can get a new one from them for <=250 ill return this one( which im going to do anyway and grab one from them. Great phones for the money for sure.

Well, I checked Google and I do have the free 100gb storage til August 2019.

So maybe mine were returned for something before the offer was used.

I'm kinda leaning towards they've never been used but maybe weren't perfect in condition (scratches or overruns) and couldn't be advertised as brand new.

Based on your comment, I started using this app. It works great!!! It just auto connects as I go store to store. Highly worth it.

In the past it would piss me off when I would go near a Starbucks and my data connection would stop because of the wifi connecting and halting at the login page.

I would like to purchase a new phone but I don't want to spend very much. Most important priority is the quality of the camera. Any recommendations? What's the least you would think I could pay for a phone with a reasonably decent camera? I don't really care about other features. Thanks.

You ask wrongly.
Camera is the most expensive criteria.
Give a budget that is reasonable to you and people can suggest a phone in that range with a decent camera.

I want to spend the least amount I can but still get a reasonably decent camera. Basically what's the least expensive phone I can buy with a passable phone? I'm not a phone person at all but I'd like to be able to take ok pics. Could I get a phone for under $200 or is that just ridiculous?

Not ridiculous. Check xiaomi A1 and look for review of camera with pictures to see if it match your needs.
Budget phones have okeish camera that sux in low light settings mostly.

Thanks Eddy. I'll check out some of the reviews with pictures and see what I think. I like the price!

Camera is the main area where high end phone really provide value. The rest is fine.
The 75 to 200$ range has some really decent choices now.

Neither the original Pixel nor Pixel 2 are compatible with wireless charging?

Not without an aftermarket case.

That sucks.
Really puts a damper on my enthusiasm to get one.
Why in the world would Google not include it on a $700+ flagship phone?

Pixel was borderline early enough for it to be ok. I was shocked when the Pixel 2 came out that it didn't have it. I may upgrade to the Pixel 3 if it does, if it doesn't, I'll be REALLY disappointed with Google.

I hate paying full price for brand new phones, but I have to get something soon.
Im still on a Droid Turbo and the GPS has completely failed. It worked only intermittently for the past year, but now it won't find location at all which makes nav completely useless. Plus its getting old and kind of slow.

So I'm looking for something that
1) has comparable battery life and durability to the Turbo
2) is not an iPhone
3) Verizon compatible

Right now I'm looking at:
Google Pixel 1 128G- manufacturer refurb - $300
Price is right, but warranty is only 30 days unless I purchase a separate policy at 1year/~$40

Google Pixel 2 64G, $650 at Costco, (various rebates available on trade ins, not sure if Turbo qualifies at all)

Anything else I should be looking at in a similar price range?
I really really prefer something that can be charged wirelessly, but if Pixel/Pixel 2 is the best for my money I could live without a wireless dock.

I was really happy with my moto 4g plus until the 'ghost touch' issue started getting worse a couple of months ago.

Now I've started hating this thing.

The Google Nexus had wireless charging. Google seems to prefer the durability of a metal body and the much faster speed of USB-C PD.
