probably not security-wise (maybe Signal encrypts the local storage of texts?) but I like that it is super simple and quick to load without advertising or other bloat in the app.

I haven't made the purchase for a VR headset, but decided I'm going to. I saw a recommendation in a Reddit thread for one of the cheaper Cardboard base versions, the BoboVR Z4. The Amazon reviews are pretty good. I'm having trouble understanding what I'm getting by paying the $85 for the Samsung Gear vs $30 for this one - anyone have any thoughts?

Doesn't have to just be security-wise (although I gather that's the main feature of the app). Just wondering if it should be a consideration as a better app than Textra under the [always correct] assumption that no one else is using Signal. The simple/quick/no bloat stuff applies to Textra too though.

Samsung has a deal with occulus and some app that require Samsung gear.
My opinion: if you want to see a limited sample of VR any cardbox or better vr set will give you that glimpse of the world of VR. If you want true VR you ll need an occulus or a vive anyway.

Spending 100$ for a Samsung gear or 10/20$ won't be a big step up anyway

I do not understand all of the Textra hype. Besides scheduled texting what is so great about Textra?

As mentioned, cardboard and GearVR are different "app store" ecosystems. Additionally with the Samsung Gear, you are paying for better IMUs (motion control sensors) - or at least more of them - rather than relying on just the ones the phone has already. Whether this makes a difference I couldn't tell you.

Nothing is "so great". It's a simple app to a accomplish a basic/core task. It's simply the best.

My analysis of it is basically: simplicity/speed of Android Messages + better customization/dark mode stuff.

Maybe you have the paid version or adbIock. I haven't had it for a few months, but it used to have an ad at the top that looked like a conversation

No, but I suppose a paperweight is just as good as a grenade if you don't care about blowing stuff up

The 3T is unanimously considered a great all-around phone. Basically a competitor to the Pixel at half the cost (biggest sacrifice is a lessor camera sensor).

However, if you can wait until June Oneplus is expected to release the OP5.

Yea standard opinion seems to be OP3T is best value, Pixel is best quality.

Probably will be true with OP5 vs Pixel 2 as well.

I definitely didnt pay for the upgraded version, but now that I think about it, I believe maybe there were ads for a short time on a banner up top a while back. Not sure if they started with an update and then automatically went away after a few days, or if was just something that the handcent team tried temporarily and then stopped, but I haven't had any ads for months.

not only that, but the ad wouldnt show up until like 1 sec after opening the app, causing you to accidentally click the ad rather than your most recent message

I had been using MightyText for a long time until they severely limited their service unless you paid quite a bit of money for it.

Just checked out Pulse and it's great. Had no problem paying $10.99 for lifetime sub.

for someone switching from ios to android for the first time, how does the messaging work? ive heard if you are in a group chat with people who are all on imessage that you receive the messages individually and you can only respond individually. so its not really like a chatroom anymore when your in those. also you lose some ability to send media? i guess imessage allows you to send the actual file size of your picture and videos and on android it compresses it?

I dunno I imagine there are some sporadic issues here and there... but I group chat with iPeople all the time and it works perfectly fine. Feels like a "chat room" and all.

I generally work around the problem by not associating with folks with iphones.

(Just kidding. Not sure what issue you're talking about.)
