In certain situations companys will take a credit card and ship you the replacement first, if/when the old one is received they dont charge the credit card.
Call Samsung and explain that the phone charges on wireless so it is still usable to a point, you would rather have it functioning fully and would like to send it but you can be without it for that long. Can they provide a replacement with a credit card as guarantee that the old one will be shipped.
The other option is find a cheap alternative to use in the interim.

I spoke many times, at long length about a solution. I told me my carrier would be able to provide me with a loaner phone and they (Samsung) would arrange it. They put me on hold and then transferred me to Verizon customer support at which point Verizon told me they don't do loaner phones and that's not an option. They thought it was weird that Samsung thought that was an option.

Did yours come? I ordered in late November or early December, had a similar experience (ship date 1/3 => 1/12 => 3/3), but it shipped 1/25. Mine is XL, 128, white FYI.

Had it for about a week and I cant express how happy I am w/ this thing. It feels like they stole a lot of the things that I like about iOS and kept the things I like about android. I would recommend it to everyone, and would offer that I feel the "hello google" activation is better on the XL than the regular (I bought the regular but decided to return and wait for the XL).

Verizon sent me a comp'd daydream VR headset due to delays in pixel shipping. I cant imagine this thing wont suck but still nice little bonus.

Have an Axon 7. Got upgrade note for version A2017UV1.1.0B15

Says it's an upgrade from Android OS 6.0.1 to 7.0

I assume this is something I should install?

See if there is any information on how well it runs Android 7 vs Android 6, but yes, Android 7 is the current OS.

android messages, latest version of google messaging:

seems this is the final consolidation step as it will be the default app on many phones

I've had a Note 4 since its launch, have loved owning it. It's a little more than 2.5 years old, and still running generally very well. But I dropped it and cracked the screen this week, so I am considering buying a new phone. Any advice on which way to go?

I'm on Verizon. As near as I can tell my most likely options are:

* LG V20 - $579
* Google Pixel XL - $869
* Samsung S7 Edge - $790
* Wait 2 months for S8 Edge - ?, rumors of $1,050?

Given what little I've read, seems like the V20 isn't quite as good an option as the Pixel/S7, but for $200+ cheaper it's where I'm leaning. Having a good camera is important to me, which sounded like the biggest drawback of the OnePlus 3/3T, which is why its not on my list.

So, I like the Pixel XL a lot. One of the cool things it comes with is infinite free storage on google photos for photos and videos taken on the device for life, at full resolution. For many people who use phones as cameras a lot, this seems like a big deal. Even if you're paying a few bucks more a month for the phone for 2 years, the lack of having to pay an upgrade for storage for forever is pretty sweet and I'd assume over time offsets. (Assuming you trust Google isn't going out of the photo storage business.)

I very much doubt the S8 will be that much $.

I hate the edge model. I don't know if you get used to it at some point but the weird screen was unappealing every time I got one in hand

Google Photos has free unlimited storage regardless of what phone you own, the only catch is that if it's over 16MP it will compress it, and 4k video is not included in the unlimited storage, unless you're on a Nexus or Pixel device.

These are pretttttttyyy small asterisks imo.

I bought a used Nexus 6p for $280 and it was in better condition than my Nexus 6p that got stolen. The Pixel isn't waterproof and has a crappy screen:body ratio.

We are surely at the point where the difference between a 2016+ Flagship and a 2016+ mid-tier are so small that the biggest difference is the 75% in price.

I'm hoping the Pixel 2 delivers more of what I want but until then the 6p with OTA updates *every month* at less than $300 is far and away the best combination of features, quality, and price. If that's not what you're after consider checking out mid-tier phones from the big brands. I think $800 for a cellular phone today is nuts.

KP,

4k video adds up real fast. Fair point re: the actual photos, though.

"crappy" screen:body ratio is obviously pretty subjective. Note the person above hating edge, which in some ways is an attempt to maximize that ratio. Or the fact that the pixel is in line/better than the iPhone (like it or not the most popular phone on the planet).

Isn't waterproof is also valid but jesus christ stop dropping your phones in the toilet?

Edit: it seems like every month or so this thread has an inane "is a $800 phone worth it" discussion and I'm seeking to avoid that. Some people have more money than others, some people are happier to spend more money than others even if they have the same amount, etc. Value is fairly subjective.

I had a waterproof phone once. I didn't care at all that it was waterproof. I have the pixel now. I don't really care that it's not.

Also the screen body ratio is fine. I understand the aesthetics of minimizing bezels, but this chin actually improves functionality IMO. If it was smaller it would be harder to move my thumb down to the nav buttons. I'll be a fan once zero bezels only when we get to the point where all navigation is achieved by complex (maybe 3d) gestures.

I just watched an OP3T vs iPhone 7 vs Galaxy S7 camera comparison and the OP3T was edging out the iPhone in a bunch of different categories (the S7 was the winner). What are you hearing about the 3T camera?

Honestly don't remember it now, but I swear it was on a write up I read that the camera was substandard, but that info is very interesting. For my case in particular I saw that their devices aren't available on Verizon in the US (correct me if I'm wrong), so I am likely out.

I did want to at least investigate switching to AT&T, and advice there? I'm a DirecTV customer fwiw.

I've read that, I have a OP3 though and the camera's fine. Not the sort to do detailed test though.

The OP3 is awesome coming from a note 4.

I am also on DTV and was considering AT&T except that under their ownership DTV customer service which wasnt great to begin with, went right into the crapper under AT&T. IMO They also have the worlds worst engineering management and team in the world given the release of horribly buggy software and apps.

This US carrier shakeup stuff is pretty interesting. Anyone making the jump to T-Mobile for the 3 lines for $100 (all-in) promotion?

Wow - quick look at their website says you can get 2 lines for $100/mo unlimited including taxes, 2 free Galaxy S7s (I am wondering if you can pay to upgrade to edge?), and $150/line in gift cards. That's pretty amazing on its face: I'd save $25/month on my plan (with no chance to go over data, although I never do that @ 10GB), save a $500-$900 outlay for the phone, and get the extra $300 from two lines switching. I'm not super price concious, but $1K + lower monthly cost is worth my time.

Anyone have good/bad thoughts re: T-mobile? Particularly in Seattle if you got it...

T-mobile in Southern California is awesome. However, if your phone doesn't support LTE channel 12, your cell coverage inside buildings/house will likely suffer.

My GF and I are on 2x5 GB for $100 and thought that was an awesome deal... we're definitely intending to try to get on unlimited + no taxes for 100.

That's nuts. I didn't know about that, will have to look into it. Will definitely be willing to make more of an effort if it involves 2 free phones (which we'd immediately sell since we both dislike Samsung - she liking Apple and me liking stock Android).

Overall, I'd give T-Mobile 2 huge thumbs up. Service has been incredible and on par with all my friends who have AT&T/Verizon. They're also just constantly making improvements since they really want to be considered in the same tier. Now I go on ski/hiking trips out in no man's land and rarely have spots with no service.

Never been to Seattle though, haha, so take that for what it's worth.

I dunno about this. Large thick walled buildings maybe, but I got T-Mo in summer '14 in Boston, and it's been basically flawless since. I don't think Band 12 was up back then, but I could be wrong.
