Tasker question. This is starting to bother me; can't find a solution anywhere. I'm getting the message "TTS failed to initialize" (text-to-speech I assume) when a task tries to use the "say" action (specifically, reading a text to me while I'm in "driving" mode). Tasker is enabled as "on" under the accessibility settings; can't think of any other problem. Anyone else encounter this and know the solution? Thanks.

did you google it? it seems a somewhat common problem. http://grokbase.com/t/gg/tasker/145e...ion-google-tts for example. TTS takes too long to load if it's not yet in RAM and tasker aborts the loading after 10 seconds. i have no specific knowledge of the topic, so maybe this is useless for you. but just saying

I did see that, but I thought there didn't seem to be a good/known solution, I'll dig a bit deeper though I guess.

quick question.. I love all my nexus phones, but their inability to expand on hard drive space is tilting. Right now, text are not showing because I am near capacity (mostly music files).

What program would you recommend , where i can listen to my music on cloud so I can free up space..

thanks.

What isn't to like about uploading many gig* of music then stream it for free to your phone? Is this a lossless v compression debate?

* I forget how much free space on have, its a LOT however, like tens of thousands of albums

Yeah the G4 isn't looking so hot. Average battery life on the GS6, I found a great deal on a sealed, unlocked iPhone 6 64gb. Guess I'm switching to the dark side. =(
*edit* $700 CAD outright

Google Play Music is really bad. The interface of the app, uploading the music, everything about it is bad.

I still use it, but it's worse than iTunes was five years ago.

I hate how it runs in the background on its own without me launching the app.

Had to disable audible and slacker radio for constantly running in the background, I used to actually like slacker radio too

i hate how

uploading from the computer it thinks there's one more file than there is, every time, and it just sits at "penidng" or whatever. Google the solution? From Google's website "add a folder to sync with a file in it and remove the other folder from the sync list" lol. perfect.

Adding a second folder just jumbles in to the queue so you can't control things

There's no easy way to delete duplicates when you readd the original folder because it completely ****ed everything up

On the app

Click search. Did the keyboard come up? No? It might the next time

Feel like listening to the songs on your phone from an artist? No problem just go through the 85 extra steps required because "shuffle artist" doesn't work unless you have "only play downloaded music" enabled. Makes sense.

Feel like listening to a shuffled library? Like everyone does all the time? Just open up the app, click menu in the top left, click all the way over to songs and then type shuffle all.

The more I use Google services the less impressed I get with everything they do. Android is very good, I think Google Apps(free word, excel etc) is good and their search is obviously excellent but they seem to really like starting projects and not finishing them.

That said, it's free and cloud based and they let you hold a ****load of music on there so beggars can't be choosers.

That is why I was asking here. I rather pay for a good service than get tilted three times a day.

I have an LG L90 and I'm really sick of the limitations on it (GPS and Bluetooth basically don't work, there's so little space on the phone that I can't add apps, the SD card allows you to add music, but you can't install apps there.) I chalk it to a dud phone except my wife has an L90 and has the same problems.

Interested in spending about $300 for a new or used phone. What's good at that price point? I can get a used or refurbished LG G3 for around that price point and am wondering what other phones I should look at.

I own a G3. If you want a beautiful phone, it's beautiful. The M8, Galaxy S5 were its biggest competitors. I know nothing of the Nexus 5 or the oneplus 1 but those are probably in the mix, too.

No; they basically have every song in the world, and you stream it from them (or download them to your device)

Following up:

Poking around more intelligently, I'm honestly not sure I even had a TTS engine installed at all. Could be a result of using a custom ROM. Anyway, I installed the IVONA TTS engine, set that to the default, made sure all my tasker say tasks were using the default engine, and now I think it works.

IIRC I had the same issue trying to use the built-in Google engine. Same solution. Now you can even pick different voices w/ ivona.

Click the artist, then click the giant Play button right next to their name. 2 steps.

Songs > Shuffle all. Don't need to type anything and I'm not sure how any app could make it simpler than that.

As for all the issues with the upload manager on the desktop, must be user-dependent. I set up my watch folders once, over a year ago, and have never touched or even seen the music manager since then and haven't had a problem with any of my new music making it to the cloud.
