Agreed that marketing is everything and that if they do their job right it will be a homerun (in terms of just selling more than the One X did and increasing marketshare).

I just think they havent thought from day one how to do this. Zoe is a great example that is just named badly and will be hard to put forward. Same with BoomSound.

The Zoe name comes from Zoetrope, which I can see as an advert idea in some rough sense I just dont think it pushes through to being a seller. If these small gif animation video things can be shared and thus can be sent over twitter a bit like a competitor to Vine then I think the end user will see it as more than a gimmick, but as it stands...meh. Im not sold and im the gadget nerd who should love it.

Whereas if Samsung can get 4.2.x on the SG4 out of the gate so it has the photosphere combined with the other camera tricks Samsung already has - these are going to be big marketable features that instantly grab you. I still want to make a photosphere (though not so much to go through the steps to put the software on my n2) even though I have never made more than one or two panorama pictures just to test the function. Its just cool and obviously useable, and clearly not just a gimmick.

On security. Isn't the real point to stop girls reading your messages, and your friends Fraping you or texting crude messages to "grandma - cell"... More than anti theft?

one thing i really don't understand: why did they cripple the zoe share feature? you can only upload them in full resolution (12-20mb per "zoe") and they only save it for 30 days. that's so so so stupid. and their reason for this is even more lulz: because the service is free and online space is expensive, they can only save it for 30 days.
if done correctly, this could be a really great marketing & viral tool (implement in trip reports, blogs, facebook profiles and so on). you could also give options to share easier via their blinkfeed, tag people in it via facebook integration and auto-posting on their walls etc (and everyone that looks at it realises that this is exclusively on the htc one).

something else: thought it was interesting that there was absolutely no mention anywhere about NFC (the phone has nfc).

i haven't figured out what the difference is b/t the zoe file and a video you end after 3 seconds.

Ha, I thought basically the same thing when I heard of Vine.

The completely awesome 5secondfilms were years ahead of the curve it seems.

Plus, the idea of taking pictures and creating movement by putting them one after another isnt new. To the left of my post is an avatar doing exact that and it achieves it while being 188kb in size.

So, what the task will look like is this:

Thanks, I thought it might be a plugin.

Edit: A new one I added the other week was to switch to silent mode based on my calendar entries (read University Google calendar ie when I'm in lectures).

Before I upgraded, my last two phones have been HTC - the Magic (succeeded the G1) and the Desire Z (only decent QWERTY keyboard phone I've ever seen IMHO), so I feel bad when I don't see them doing as well anymore. It is a marketing issue though and I think Sense is partly to blame too - I've never liked Sense anyway.

Make sure you aren't setting an exit condition on your silent task that restores volumes - if your lecture goes over you don't want it making noises. Or at least make it wait 10min.

For me no. Never had those problems. Its all abut "what happens if I lose my phone"

That's a good point, thanks. I was also thinking about setting up a location context so that it doesn't switch to silent if I'm still at home having not gone in.. Haha.

How are you setting up the silent on calendar entry recipe? I cant find a corresponding Event to launch the Task (though I may just be overlooking it). Also can it read the busy vs available state?

I am using Mute-O-Matic right now to do the same thing, but would like to try and get Tasker working for it.

Context is:

State > App > Calendar Entry

In Calendar Entry, set Calendar to whichever calendar you'd like it to affect using the Search button. I left Availability set to Any, but yes you can change that.

Then Task is just Silent Mode > Vibrate.

Fanboy Phil just can't take the fact that the GS4 is going to be sooooo inferior.

Sure Samsung ppl will be happy when their phone comes out, but when they see me with an HTC1, lady under each arm, they'll know they made the wrong decision.

Yes, I am the fanboy

Someone who is critical in really specific ways about specific features is definitely the problem. These really specific ways that you chose to ignore and proceed direct to ad homming me. Nice one.

Also Swiftkey Keyboard just went on sale for half price as it has updated to include Flow and other features (for free if you already own it, just update for the newness).

Sounds like a high school thing. No but really most of my close friends know my lock pattern as stuff invariably comes up where they want to use my phone, and the worst we do to each other is change the wallpaper. Actually texting stuff to other people or changing their facebook profile isn't cool.

If you're concerned about people reading your messages, you can use a program like Hide It Pro or create an app-specific password (I think that requires root? Not sure, never done it).

You can actually password protect apps with Tasker, but the UI is so dated and ugly that I'd rather not use it.

Managed to skip over the video before.

Wow. I'd heard Google were working on an augmented reality glasses thing, but that is infinitely better than what I was expecting. Do want!

Now we give it ten years (?) and the screen is a contact lens and the rest is a chip inside your ear - scary?

If I used this at no other time than while driving it would be cool.

Deadline is February 27th to try and get one before anyone else.

All you need to do is pre-pay $1500+tax and show up in NY, LA, or San Francisco.

I guess I'll wait.....
