For an average, experienced poker player, what book that talks and teaches new things about poker, typically a fun and a good read book? Thanks for the input.

You should decide if you want a fun or a good poker book.
If you want a good poker book Mathematics of Poker by Bill Chen.

When I saw the thread title, I was thinking you were asking about non-instruction books like Cowboys Full by McManus, Godfather of Poker by Brunson, and Checkraising The Devil by Matusow.

Sorry to see that's not what you were asking about.

The Education Of A Poker Player by Herbert Yardley from 1957 is a classic.

It has stories ranging from his life growing up in small town America around 1910 and learning to play poker in a saw dust joint to his mission in pre World War II China where he is breaking Japanese codes on behalf the Chinese government.

The stories are juxtaposed with chapters on the various poker games that he played: 5 card stud, draw poker with deuces wild, draw lowball, etc. The poker advice will keep you from going broke and his 5 card stud material is one of the primary sources for 5 card stud players.

He fell foul of the US Intelligence Department by writing a reveal all book on code breaking otherwise on his death in 1958 he probably would have got a funeral with much fanfare.

This guy was a real life James Bond.

Fun Fact: There was a real James Bond, but he was a bird expert and not a spy. Fleming thoughht the name was perfect for his spy character as he wanted an unassuming name.

I can't imagine you haven't read it already - but Doyle Brunson's Super System is beyond amazing.

For the average player it should be viewed as a historical tract as it teaches how to play in a game (uncapped no limit) that is rarely played.
