I recently picked up: The Main Event with Jonathan Little, In Depth Analysis of 54 Poker Hands from My WSOP Main Event

As far as I know, this book is only available as an ebook on Kindle.

The format of this book is similar to Gus Hansen's Every Hand Revealed and Lynch, Van Fleet and Turner's Winning Poker Tournaments One Hand At A Time.

Author discusses key hands played during the 2014 WSOP Main Event. In each hand discussed, author discloses his hand, stack size, blinds and position. Each play on each street is then discussed and reason behind the play is discussed.

For each street, author also gives a multiple choice of 4 options that are available. Little says that the multiple choice is only given to get us in the habit of evaluating what choices are available on each street.

Unlike other books though, there is no actual scoring system for the choices. While I understand Little's reasons for why no such scoring system is in place, I do wish he would take the time to discuss which options would be acceptable and which ones are not such that reader will have a better idea of how to think through the hands.

One issue I found frustrating was that on hands shown down, Little would say whether he won or loss the pot but would not reveal what the villain's hole cards were (haven't finished the book yet but I have not seen a hand example where villain's hole cards were revealed). I found this a bit frustrating because when I am following the hand, I would have gotten some value as to what villain's cards were as to assess my own hand reading skills given the how the hand developed.

Another thing I noticed is that (again, I am only about a third into it) was that Little does not really get in the math or calculations on pot odds, heads up stats, hole cards vs range, etc... Again, this may be a good or bad thing for the reader depending on whether they need the math to quantify the decision. If you are looking for a more math heavy book, you may be disappointed with Little's format.

Despite these shortcomings, I am enjoying the book and find great value in reading through Little's thought process through each hand. I am learning a lot on understanding the 'thinking process' of a world class player and how to make adjustments depending on different circumstances such as player, image and position.

My favorite poker books are almost always books where authors go through hand examples with commentary and quizzes (Byron Jacobs, Bob Ciaffone's How Good is Your __ series, Winning Poker Tournaments One Hand at a time, Every Hand Revealed, Real Play of Hands, etc...).

The price of book is $8.88 on Amazon Kindle - for me, definitely worth picking up and great value for the amount of hands that Little goes through.

Thanks for your comments. I list all losing hands when I knew the cards, which wasn't too often. I tried to mention why the other betting lines were likely incorrect although I didn't go too deep on them. When two plays were close, I discussed them both.
You can order the book in physical form on Amazon. It is printed on demand through createspace.

Hi Jonathan,
Thanks fr your response. I have read a bit more since my review and have noted that hole cards were disclosed on showdown in later hands. I am in Day 2 and find the content very insightful. Thanks for putting out another great book.
