It's not really "HOLY" BIBLE; the capital "Y" in the first word is actually composed of the capital letter "D" on the left branch of the Y and "'EM" on the right branch of the Y. The stem of the Y says POKER. So, the real title of the book is HOLD 'EM POKER BIBLE.

That said, it was a great book for its time; nobody knew (or wanted to know) how to play Holdem in 1983 and the book was just about everything you needed: short, punchy, packed with great stuff, and it was ha-ha funny. I finally wound up putting most of his admonitions on cut-down index cards and I'd shuffle through them whenever I wasn't doing anything else.

For example, on facing pages 56 and 57 you have:

"Do not be foolish and play suited hole cards unless they are good. Suited hole cards are only 3% better than unsuited hole cards. Play suited cards only if they are high."

Facing this epigram is the scriptural back-up in Olde English type:

"O God, thou knowest my foolishness; and my sins are not hid from Thee."
-- Psalms 69:5

Almost the entire 256-page book is set up like this. There are also some pages of notes and introductions.

The author, Dick Davis, apparently had a lot of interests and, according to the short biography at the beginning of the book, led an interesting life: he was an Air Force pilot in Korea during that war, became an attorney after that, served as a judge after that, and wrote this book after he retired from the bench. The bio says he resumed private practice and continues to teach college business law at the time of publication (1983).

Dick Davis wrote a neat book and I see from the tag on the inside that I paid $14.95 for it back then. My copy looks like the one on Amazon except that the cover is black and the lettering is white.
