Can someone catch me up on the last eight years? Can someone catch me up on the last eight years?

The last two books I bought were Professional no Limit Holdem and No Limit Holdem Theory and Practice. So yeah, I've been out of the game a long time. Since '07, what books have come out that are considered essential reading for the modern game? I play 1/2 NL six max on Bovada FWIW. I also play their 100K every Sunday.

Janda's Applications of No Limit, and Tipton's books (even if you don't play HU). If you struggle with those, start with Ed Miller's Poker's 1% (but it's only really relevant if you do struggle with those).

Also, I think it came out in 2006 but The Mathematics of Poker is still pretty much the essential theoretical text.

Definite Article, do you agree or disagree that PNLHE and NLTAP contain fundamental principles that can still be applied to today's games?

Yes, but I'd say NLHETAP to a greater extent than PNLHE, which I don't really get the hype for.

This isn't set in stone or necessarily correct, but will give you some good ideas for a strong plan. These are all great books but some are better than others. I think it's good to read all the Two Plus Two books. The three Harrington/Robertie books are a great 1322 page introduction. Your first strategy books should be more practical so you can learn some basic strategy.

The next eight books are more theoretical than the first three. Then there are a few more advanced books. Your final book will be The Mathematics Of Poker, which you need to work your way towards.

Focus more on these primary poker texts. Many new books come out each year but almost all will be either not super strong or will not be super strong some years later.

Three of the hottest books right now are the Janda/Tipton books, but you may want to work your way towards them since they are not introductory books. If you check on Amazon, the top reviews for the book Poker's 1% are bad, so you may want to ignore that book.

The concept of a book being "outdated" is used too often, although that word is still semi-relevant. NLHETAP and PNLHEV1 are still great books I think. HOCG1/2 aren't perfect but are still great books, and they focus more on live full ring than online six max.

We can also discuss psychology/essay poker books, math poker books, and biographical/fun poker books. Good luck, Yojimgari

There are the gto theories but the only book u at this time need for it is the janda book for ring cash games online.

If u want more, maybe j.little gives u more as janda isnt complete in sample hands nor is exploitive enough.

I picked to skip tipton as heads up and variety of stacks it seems but thats my decision.

For plo the hwang books. For beginners the mastering plo book though one should develop ones own gto ranges but the first half of the book is also the faster book for plo beginners online rather than put in 40 to 50 hours per book with hwang hand histories included. Then one year of playing and i was a player also. Just ignore the plo gto for a start, especially the loose bluff raises, and develop it later from what u know about everything. That is my next problem to improve my plo gto further but should be mostly trivial as my gto understanding is so good and i have all these materials.

Plo8 book by dan deppen.

Cant easily recommend any lhe book for online play, feeling a bit too depressed about them postflop. The stox book is good enough preflop, bit tight early. The intelligent poker player book has some bot lhe histories to be worth a read for a lhe player, while his other book is useless, and that other only because of the lack of material, especially theoretical one but with stox preflop and that bot stuff it all looks somewhat intelligent already. The theory of poker. Then use a range software for ranges on the flop, and develop gto, meaning a mix of draws and pairs under the ranges and boards. Play vs. top bots should give info. There are some combo softwares for gto rather than just range or equity softwares for seeing ur theoretical call down minimums based on range and board, ev, and money odds. Not that next to anyone beats lhe anymore, nor is it popular, but it can be played in mixed games.

The elements of seven card stud or whatever it is called today, by othmer, has an expanded version from some year unknown to me and i liked the book when i read it over ten years ago and could well be the best stud book though there are other good enough books also and not everyone prefer the othmer book but it should fit well enough in likings of these days more theoretical players. Studs though are dead and have been the last eight or ten years, nothing to mention published either.

The above books should cover what mixed games book by ken lo is missing or is too beginner about, and this way one should be able to not read the super system 1 and 2, nor read about any other book not mentioned here, having put it in as minimum i can now. Even the 7stud book is a bit of an extra but i couldnt handle recommending mixed games with just the lo book, that is less good as hi.
