Range vs Range - Try this game! - Beginning Poker Questions

I recently discovered this fantastic poker variant. It's exactly like regular poker, except you play with ranges instead of two hole cards.You get to choose exactly what hands you fold/check/call/bet/raise with. At the end of the line, you get a complete summary of your EV. Thinking in ranges is the first step to becoming better.

It's good fun and good practice! If anyone wants to play, I've got a bunch of open challenges under the username "notphilgalfond". It would be great to have a few more challengers!

The interface is tricky, but it's worth it.

I can honestly say I've learned more from playing this game than any book/video has ever taught me. It forces you to think about your strategy holistically, and it shines a spotlight on common mistakes. Its completely reshaped the way I look at the game.

Looks pretty cool. Anyone knows how does it calculate or "work" how much EV you are losing or something like that?

The developer made several videos explaining the math behind it.

The math is pretty straightforward. You can gain EV in two ways in poker:
1) EV gained at showdown.
2) EV gained when our opponent folds.

The results tab at the end gives you a breakdown. Fold equity is calculated as (fold frequency x pot).

Showdown EV is just (frequency x equity x pot).

You submit your move, and then wait for your opponents response. Keep in mind that each player has a week to make their move before timeout, but most people play a few moves a day.

Good game, Ian! That last one was pretty close. Looking forward to the rematch.

Wxrlord you've gotten so much better at this game man. When you started you were playing ABC poker, now you're pulling out exploits and balancing like a boss. We must have played like 50 games so far so I have no idea who's ahead lol.

Who's the strongest player you guys have played against on there?

Agreed! I've noticed a huge difference in my games already. It really puts it into perspective.

Oh yes, I remember. They were close. Unfortunately both boards were pretty dry, so we checked back and forth. Hopefully next game there will be more opportunities to get the lead. Cheers
