How much earn best online poker players per hour, and best live poker players?

I don't really know either way...but it seems a common thought that floats around here often is that most players lose money playing poker. This would mean that of the winners, many are not making very much money at all. So for the select few....

....some of it is speculation since some online sites are untracked and live casino cash game players are totally uncharted. Tourney players have numbers being tossed around on a few online sites. So maybe....nobody knows is the correct answer?

The absolute best players in the world are probably averaging $500/hr or higher for online.

How about live at 1/2 and 2/5?

Live 1/2 & 2-5 seem to be about $20 and $50 an hour respectively, but it takes 500 ti 1000 hours for those number to stabilize. I play 1-2 recreationally and am just under $20.

To give you a better answer, why do you ask? Your question seems to be about "best players", and I doubt many of us see how that is relevant to anything practical. I'm guessing that absolute crushers live/online might be a favorite make $500K-$2million a year. Variance could push a few people higher. You're talking 1/100,000 or 1/1,000,000.

Put is this way, how much does a 1/1,000,000 company founder earn in a year? Probably $50million? More? Most modern multi-billionaires come out of this group. Thus, being awesome + lucky at starting a company is worth at least 25x as much as being awesome + lucky at poker.

Poker is a hard way to make an easy living.

I hear this figure thrown around a lot, but I've played in London's Empire and Hippodrome and I don't think it's possible to crush 1/2 for 30bb/100 over a long sample. But I have an insignificant sample so I don't know.

Can anyone speak for the London live poker scene on this?

There is a poster in LLSNL named Sol Reader- he is a well respected pro. He has absolutely destroyed the lower limit games in london to the tune of some truly obscene numbers (well beyond 10 bb per hour). I have never played em but they play very deep according to him. He plays as high as 10/20 iirc

if you search the winrates bankrolls and finances thread over in llsnl for his posts you can see his numbers for yourself

Thanks for the responses, yeah in hindsight if you sit 200bb+ deep and a fish comes along (I’ve definitely seen the type that is willing to gamble it up) it makes sense how 20/hour is possible. I’m just not rolled for that level of deepstack play so it didn’t occur to me.

But for practical reasons you can’t really call it 1/2 anymore, if I’m sitting down with effective stacks of 400+ in a 1/2 game then 30BI BRM is 12,000. And if you’re a pro / semi pro you’ll want a hell of a lot more than that to avoid taking money out of the life roll.

The thing with live games is people open a lot bigger than skilled players do. If people 8x open at a 1/2 you're basically playing pots equivalent to 2/5.
