Is It Worth It To Call in this Situation? Is It Worth It To Call in this Situation?

This has happened to me multiple times and I was wondering what the proper play is. It will be folded around to me and I will be on the button with a medium pocket pair. I will raise to 3bb and an opponent with only 40bb's or so will make it 9bb. Is it right to call here or should I just let it go as the implied odds just aren't there. I am leaning towards the latter- I don't really see the need to get involved in a coinflip situation in a cash game where I can just wait for a better spot to get it in.

You have this around the wrong way IMHO. You should take any EV+ situation you can in a cash game because you can just reload if you don't win. You might pass up a marginal situation in a tournament because you can't just rebuy if you lose the flip.

Anyways, once there is money in the pot you should definitely be willing to coin flip because the money in the pot means it is EV+ to do so. Rather than calling I'd be more likely to shove against a 40bb stack

There is already 12.5bb in the pot (assuming reraise is from the BB)

You shove 37bb, he calls 31bb. So there is 80.5bb in the pot. If he calls everytime then you only need 37/80.5 = 45.9% equity in the pot to BE. If you are coinflipping, then you are making money. ~3.3bb or so.

When I'm in the small or big blind and everyone folds to the button who raises I'll usually re-raise to see if he is seriously raising or just trying to steal the blinds. By the time action gets to u on the button there are 1.5 big bets in the pot. 1.5 + ur 3 = 4.5 u say one of the blinds raises 9 bb making it 13.5 big bets. I'm just using an example because it wasn't clear if it's 9 on top or 9 total. But basically, u have to only call 6 for a chance to win 13.5. Your getting a little better than 2 to 1 on a hand u get to play in position.

In the situation described call is no good. Could possibly be a 4bet though. Fold is a nice standard though.

personally i would fold, though it would all depend on how aggressive the player is i imagine?

In short, it depends.

Generally, I wouldn't call here. You're calling 6bb more, into a 12 bb pot, and can only get a maximum of 40bb. Even if you get it all in every time you hit a set, it's still a -EV spot.

But I think a case can be made for 4-betting. So I would say that in this spot, it's a raise or fold situation, depending on who u're up against.
